FOREWORD
With more and more parents working outside of the home the demand for child care is on the rise. According to statistics provided by the Center for American Progress, only one-third of children are cared for by a full-time, stay-at-home parent. This translates into approximately 12 million children in the United States under the age of five that require quality child care. For small child care operations this means there is opportunity for growth and profit knocking on the front door.
Whether you are just starting out on your child care journey or you already operate a small home center with the goal of transitioning into a larger operation, structuring your business correctly and developing a solid business plan is the key to sustaining a child care business that is lucrative and profitable even during times of low enrollment and an uncertain economy. A career in the child care industry is rewarding and enriching on many different levels, but managing a successful business in this industry also presents many challenges such as defending one's personal liability, securing funding, retaining qualified staff members, and attracting new business that can threaten your center's profitability.
Money-making child care programs understand the legal and financial benefits of structuring their businesses as limited liability companies (LLCs). Lucrative child care programs know the importance of expertly training their workers to ensure families always receive the best care possible. Financially successful centers know that sometimes choosing to operate as a 501(c)(3) non-profit company opens doors to programs and subsidies that will provide access to grants and other funding sources that you may not have otherwise been able to attain. By choosing to read, Profitable Child Care, How to Generate More Income for Your Child Care Business, you are taking that first step towards wealth and prosperity that nearly all child care providers seek, but don't always attain.
No matter what kind of child care center you operate (home-based, a small child care center, a faith-based daycare, etc.), this book will give you concise, useable information that you can apply to your day-to-day operations to help you increase your profit margin.
This book isn't about theory. It is about getting down to the nitty-gritty and keeping it real. The suggestions given within these pages have been used by actual child care centers throughout the country with stellar results. Of course, your own results will depend on what you are willing to put into the management and development of your business. But, if you follow the recommendations and seek out the resources within this book, there is no doubt that you will find the path of success paved in gold.
CHAPTER 1
Structure Your Business to Be Profitable
Protect Your Personal Assets
INTRODUCTION
How you choose to legally structure your business will have a direct impact on your ability to profit and succeed in your business ventures. Too many child care providers take a casual approach to organizing their businesses. These individuals treat their child care operations as a hobby rather than a serious business endeavor; however,
