Sarah Sorensen
I love working with children and I am passionate about child welfare issues. My background is in case management, child welfare, and childcare. After I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters of Social Work, I started out as a family reunification caseworker in Washington, DC. I was drawn back to childcare after my family moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia. I became a Childcare Licensing Inspector for the Commonwealth of Virginia. After moving back to the Washington, DC area many years later, I took a similar job as a Childcare Licensing Specialist with the State of Maryland. I left that job during the first year after I had my son. While I no longer work as a state Childcare Inspector, as a mother of a preschool boy, I’ve used all the knowledge and experience that I’ve acquired to make an informed decision about my son’s childcare. In this season of my life, I want to use that knowledge and experience to empower parents to feel confident in their abilities to choose good quality childcare for their children.

Childcare Search Guide: Tips from a Former Childcare Inspector
Introduction
Hello, I am Sarah Sorensen, a former Childcare Licensing Inspector turned Mama. After finding out what it’s like to be on the parent end of childcare, I decided to create this e-book to share childcare search information that most parents don’t know. I also give tips and advice for preparing for childcare to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
Who is this Guide for?
Have you ever felt overwhelmed or confused trying to find childcare for your infant or young child? With all the options out there, do you need help weeding the bad childcare programs from the good ones?
If the answer is yes, this e-book can help you.
In it, I breakdown the process of finding childcare so it’s not so overwhelming. I’ll also show you how to find information documented by childcare professionals about the childcare programs you are interested in.
While I am no longer a Childcare Licensing Inspector, I have used the knowledge I’ve gained over my career to help me make informed decisions about my own child’s childcare options.
As a mother I want to share this knowledge with other parents so they can find the best childcare options for their families.
I will teach you the information you need to confidently make informed childcare decisions.
How to Use this Guide
This guide has three main sections. I recommend that you read it from start to finish. However, if you are in an urgent situation or your child has been previously placed in childcare you can skim through the first section, What
