    God created the Garden of Eden for Adam and Eve. They were never in need because God supplied all of their needs. Adam and Eve were commanded to be stewards of the earth, meaning they were to take care of the garden. Their paradise did not last, though, because they did not follow God’s commands. Adam and Eve lost paradise.

    I. Adam and Eve Sinned

    In the Garden of Eden, there were two trees: the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Although Adam and Eve had free will, God gave them rules to help them live. He said, ‘You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die’ (Gen. 2:16–17, NRSV). At first, Adam and Eve obeyed God’s commands.

    There were many different animals in the garden, but the serpent was the craftiest animal of all. The serpent called out to Eve and asked her about God’s command not to eat the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Eve explained God’s command and said that she and Adam would die if they ate the fruit from the forbidden tree. But the serpent told Eve that she would not die. It said that God didn’t want Eve to become wise like God, knowing the difference between good and evil.

    It didn’t take long for Eve to feel as though God might have been holding back from her. She fell for the serpent’s trick. Eve took the fruit and ate it, but she wasn’t alone. Adam was there with her. Adam and Eve disobeyed God together. As soon as Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command, they became sinners, and sin entered into the world, destroying
