    What’s in This Quarter…

This quarter explores faith that pleases God. Any person seeking God must believe God exists and must know God rewards those who are seeking God. In this quarter, we will learn additional information about faith that pleases God as we review the description of faith and observe faith in action. We will understand why it is so important to have faith that pleases God in our lifestyle of faith today.

    Unit I— Learning about Faith

This unit has four lessons drawn from Hebrews, Proverbs, 2 Chronicles, and Romans that allow us to learn more about faith, its description, its importance, its trustworthiness, its encouragement, and its transformation. The lesson from Hebrews assists our understanding of why faith that pleases God matters. A pleasing faith was so important to God that God declared as righteous the patriarchs who lived by faith. Similarly, Proverbs admonishes us to have faith, trusting God and depending on God to enable us to live in faith. In 2 Chronicles, we see the example of Jehoshaphat’s faith. God empowers Jehoshaphat’s witness to Judah that they need not fear or be dismayed because God was going to fight their battle for them. The lesson from Romans reminds Christians that through faith, their existence must not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewal of their minds.

Unit II—The Righteous Live by Faith

This unit has four lessons drawn from Isaiah, Daniel, and Habakkuk that allow us to see how the righteous live by faith. Isaiah reminds us through living by faith, the righteous can see the power of God throughout all creation; Daniel allows us to see how living by faith, the three Hebrew boys trusted God to protect them in the fiery furnace; and how Daniel, living by faith, trusted God to protect him in the lions’ den; Habakkuk, living by faith, received instructions reminding him to be still and wait on God.

    Unit III—Faith-FULL Versus Faith-LESS

This unit has five lessons drawn from Jude, Second Corinthians, First Peter, Acts, and Mark that invite learners to turn the challenges of life into opportunities for nurturing a vibrant faith instead of giving up, turning away from God, or rejecting faith. Jude appeals to us to contend for the faith that was once entrusted to the saints. The second letter to the Corinthians warns Christians to examine themselves to make sure they are living in the faith. Peter urges his readers to defend their faith with humility, gentleness, and reverence. Acts encourages the Church to be obedient to the faith using Stephen as an example. In Mark, God raised Jesus from the dead and, in so doing, unlocks the door to resurrection faith.
