Polly, Alison, India overhear what the Lord has said and with Fifi the dog, stowaway on the plane. The added weight causes Hamish to ditch on beach on the island. The Lord sends Piers and Miles to the Island in his yacht to rescue Hamish and Ape. Miles sister and Lily and Lucy also stowaway on the yacht and the boys are furious and worried for their safety. The Rebels Capture Miles and tell him to get Polly and Alison or they will kill Piers, his sister and Lily and Lucy. They go ashore, and the Island starts to sink. The girls are captured by Zack and taken to his earth home. The boys end up getting washed out to sea for the shark’s lunch.
Hamish and Ape have to climb the mountain to get signals. It’s so hot he lefts the girls and Fifi go for a paddle in a little stream, which turns into a river of black evil smelling water, which sweeps them away. Hamish thinks they must have drowned. He is devastated. They climb higher and get lost on the Mountain.
Freeflyers find the girls, introduces them to the mythicals Pendragon and Kylin as Island creatures. They think they have zapped the girls off the Island on a plane to London to safety. But the energy of the island is stronger, and they end up back on the ditched aircraft. The water is rising fast and the plane is going to sink. They are probably going to drown.
Piers is captured, and dumped by a jealous Rebel in a gully on Devil’s Hole Island. The temperature is below freezing, and Piers was in wet clothes. He managed to get fires alight to dry out. He climbs out of the gully and sees something that looks like a village. He heads there, but is seen by another Rebel. This time it’s Nadia who likes him and wants to save him.
Polly and Lily go on a mystery fun flight. But Rebel Commander Rekrap arranges for them to be put on a Rebel plane with super star Brad Capriole. The plane is heading for Devils Hole Island for a meeting of the Rebels. The pilot tells the Commander the plane is going to crash, so a mid-air fight starts and the Rebels and the pilot parachutes out of the plane. The girls and Brad are left in the falling plane dropping to their death. Waiting for death the girls as it crashes to the ground they are amazed as the plane bounces, and they land safely. Unfortunately they are captured by a rebel and taken to the Dark Universe’s Village where a meeting is held to discuss finally capturing the Earth.
Eventually the fledging Freeflyers get together to rescue Piers. Miles followed by Polly got to the Rebels first, Miles was punching any Rebel that he could, while Polly had a few of them hopping around, rubbing kicked shins. Alison followed it up by whacking them on the head with her shoe. In amongst the shouts, screams and cries of pain, Lily and Lucy were biting every hand that came within biting distance, while Fifi was biting all the ankles that she could get to. Everyone was fighting, except Brad the film star who was hiding under the table. Mayhem rained till a couple of Rebels managed to break free to run and get help. The Freeflyers were soon overcome. Zack was more than angry, and told Miles, to save Piers from torture and death, he has to willingly give his mind to his twin Knox, who he had accidentally zapped. Miles agreed to save Piers. He was taken to the mortality room to his dying twin. He told his twin he loved him and started to cry. The tears fell on Knox. Had Miles saved Knox by becoming a vegetable or sacrificing his life?

    The Enchanted Island

It was only when she felt the plane bucking and shaking, and Hamish was calling. Mayday! Mayday! Polly woke. She peered out of the window, and all she could see was treetops, and nowhere it seemed to land.

Hamish was in a lot of trouble, the light plane was approaching land too quickly, and he knew he had to attempt a landing on the white sandy beach. Polly crossed all her fingers and wondered why she had stupidly hidden on the plane.

It all started when Polly found out her brother Hamish was going away on a secret trip, and she had no intention of being left out, so she stowed away on the small plane. She was quite excited she had got one over on Hamish until she found out her little sister India and cousin Alison had the same idea.

She thought back over her life….

    ~

Polly Pepper, a budding actress, and Alison Rose, a trainee fashion designer, was temporarily without parents. So it was decided, seventeen-year-old Polly, the great, great, great granddaughter, and Alison, also seventeen, the great, great, great niece, twice removed, would move into the family home. Mrs Hart, a distant relative would look after them and keep house. They had settled in quite nicely, when Mrs Hart was suddenly called away to attend to a very sick sister. She left the girls with a promise they would behave and not get up to any mischief. She told them she might not be back when expected and hoped the girls would manage without her. And not get into any trouble.

    ~

The family home of the Peppers, 66, Byzantine Crescent, Docklands, London, England, was built as a church six hundred years ago. The front was graced with an arched ornate doorway and cathedral double doors that surprisingly opened outwards. The vast hall was lined with expensively framed pictures, many of which were ancestral portraits.

At the end of the hall was a huge picture of a castle, adorned with turrets and battlements. A mystical haze hung round it like curtain drapes, and the magnificent trees that fringed the picture seemed to dance in the wind that scurried around its walls. Dominating the Castle was a moat. It looked, deep and scary, and at times looked like it would spill out into the hall.

When the girls first moved in, they said walking into the house was like getting a great big cuddle. It was never completely dark – even at midnight in the middle of winter the house seemed to glow. Because the house was originally built as a church, it had many secret passages and hidden rooms, which appeared to change day by day.

Under the staircase, was a solid wooden door, with a big brass handle, and behind that, steep stone steps that led to the crypt. The door was locked, and it would remain locked till Polly found the key. At the top of the house, a turn left lead to an enormous room. The sun streamed through a stained glass window, which created coloured patterns that danced and skipped over the wooden floor.

    ~

It was early one Friday, and Polly woke to an expected call. She was ordered to the studio to interview one of England’s most successful designers that same afternoon. She looked at the clock: it was nine, too late for the ferry. She would have to book a private trip over. She dialed and waited for it to answer.

    ‘Jimmy’s boat service.’

‘Hi, Jimmy. I need to be in Southampton a.s.a.p. Can you help?’

Jimmy knew Polly’s voice well. ‘Polly, without you, my life would be boring.’

‘Jimmy, I’ll make you marry me if you continue to be cheeky to me.’

‘Anything but that, please Polly, anything thing but that,’ he begged, pretending to cry, at the same time thinking, I wish.

Within two hours, Polly was stepping into the studio, heading for the makeup room.

‘Polly Pippin,’ a voice came over the loudspeaker. ‘Studio one, at once Miss Pippin Pot.’

‘I will strangle that boy,’ said Polly.

‘Oh yeah, everyone knows you are madly in love with him.’ Bella, the makeup artist, put the final touches to Polly’s lips.

Polly looked at herself, smiled and said, ‘As always an excellent job.’ She looked at the clock. ‘Schiesse, I’m late!’ She ran to wardrobe, quickly changed, and was at studio one, with minutes to spare.

‘Where’s my call sheet?’ she asked Charlie, the studio manager.

‘Wait a sec.’ He called the runner. ‘Miss Pippin’s call sheet.’

‘Yes Sir,’ said Drew and raced off to find it.

Polly took her position on the stage for a light and sound check. She did not know whom she was interviewing, so was a little apprehensive. Suddenly, all the studio lights went out.

‘What is going on? Charlie, what’s happening?’

As quickly as the lights went out, they popped back on. Polly shielded her eyes and peered past the cameras.

    ‘Hi Pollump.’

Polly looked out and sat in one of the visitor chairs was her brother Hamish and younger sister India. ‘You rotten lot!’ she said to the film crew, and she ran around the table separating them. ‘Hamish, India, I can’t believe it! What are you doing here?’

‘We’re here for a holiday and thought we would surprise you.’

‘That’s the best surprise! Charlie, do I have an interview today or was this a rouse to get me here?’ She pointed at Hamish.

‘Actually, Polly it wasn’t. And she has just arrived. Shall I ask her to come straight in?’

‘Why not? My family can sit in the visitors’ box and see just how brilliant their sister is. Who is it, by the way?’

‘Do I have to be interviewed by such an amateur?’ A voice Polly knew very well rolled over the studio and was met by Polly, who could not believe her eyes.

‘Alison,’ she said. ‘Is it you?’

‘Of course it’s me,’ said Alison.

‘What is going on? All the people I love best are here today. I’ve been totally set up.’ Polly rushed to her cousin and threw her arms around her.

Once everyone had settled down, and Polly and Alison had rushed back to their seats and hastily sat, the second assistant director silently counted down with his fingers. ‘Five, four, three, two, one.’

‘I would like to welcome our guest, award-winning Miss Alison Rose.’

The camera swung to Alison, who gave it her best smile.

‘Firstly,’ Polly said I would like to congratulate you on your award for the most innovative ancient design.’

    ‘Thank you, Polly.’

‘We all know your incredible past, so what are you doing on the Isle of Wight?’

‘Well, it is a bit of a secret. However, I can tell you it’s to do with royalty.’

‘How exciting, can we push you a little further?’

‘Only to a point! Not only are we are digging into the past, we are also looking at bringing it together with the present and future.’

‘Where are you staying, Miss Rose?’

    ‘With my cousin, Polly Pippin.’

The interview went very well, and after the director had given the cut-off signal, Polly told Alison it was time to go, and hoped she would enjoy her stay on the Island.

Polly took off her makeup, said goodbye to the studio staff, and they all walked out of the studio.

    ~

The family had a great time, sightseeing and lying on the beach, Polly showing them round. Not to be outdone by his sister, Hamish arranged a lunch. He told them he had some special visitors and would they help. He had left nothing to chance, and had all the family sitting in anticipation in the dining room with time to spare, waiting for his surprise to appear.

‘How much longer do we have to wait? You said this surprise would be here by one, and here it is one fifteen, and there’s still no sign of them,’ Polly said dramatically as she stood and looked out of the window. ‘And I’m getting fed up as well as being jolly hungry.’

‘Patience was never one of your virtues, Polly. Just sit down, they will be here any minute, in fact, here they are.’

Everyone ran to the window and looked out to see a silver Rolls Royce pull up in the driveway. Two very elegant looking men stepped out of the car and headed to the door.

‘What’s this all about, Hamish? Who are they? Are they royalty?’ India asked excitedly.

‘You will soon see, India, just sit down and be quiet.’

Hamish went to the door and opened it to welcome the visitors. ‘Good afternoon, Sirs, you are most welcome. Please come in.’

‘Thank you, Hamish, it’s good to see you again. And I see you have some of your lovely family here,’ the older man said.

Polly and Alison stood and waited to be introduced to the new guests.

‘Polly, Alison, India, this is Lord Knightly and Mr Algernon Eagles. And may I present Polly and India, my sisters, and Alison, my cousin.’

None of the girls were sure whether they should curtsy or bow, so they both slightly bobbed and held out their hands, which the Lord took. He nodded and clicked his heels.

‘Please call me Ape,’ Algernon said, and held out his hand.

    ‘Ape?’ Polly questioned.

‘Actually, my full name is Algernon Ponsenby Eagles, embarrassingly Ape for short.’

As the girls giggled, Ape added, ‘that name was coined by a so-called friend.’

‘Yes, well that’s enough of that. Girls, would you please serve lunch?’ Hamish ordered.

Polly nearly told him to get it himself, but the fact was they had distinguished visitors, so she decided to do what she had been told.

After they had left for the kitchen, Lord Knightly said, ‘May I speak freely, Hamish?’

    ‘Yes Sir.’

‘An island has broken sea level very close to my island off the coast of the Bahamas. My men and I have flown over it, and according to our calculations it’s already about half the size of the Isle of Wight and is still growing. We have flown over it and as far as we can see it is uninhabited. From our first profiling, it is mountainous and has many caves and rivers.’

‘Who does the island belong to your lordship?

‘Well, according to international maritime rules. The fact the island is linked under the water by a mountainous ridge to my island, and is under a few miles as the crow flies. It’s mine.’

‘What are you going to call it, your lordship?’

‘Because it appeared so suddenly and is a phenomenon to say the least I thought. The Enchanted Isle.’

‘What is your other island called?’

‘A little unoriginal, I’m afraid. It’s known as The Lord Knightly.’

‘And do you need me to help you, Sir?’

‘Actually Hamish, yes I do. Ape is my right-hand man. There isn’t much he doesn’t know, and I am sure you will work well with together. I have already enlisted my son and nephew, Piers and Miles, and although they see it as a huge adventure, they also are thoroughly qualified to work with you. But firstly, I want you to drop off some equipment. There is a runway of sorts there, and we have taken an aerial view of the island, so you will easily find it. Then Piers and Miles will go back to the island with you and map it out.’

‘Why don’t we all go together, Sir?’

‘Because the equipment is all the weight my largest plane can take. If you take the boys, it will overload the aircraft. Unfortunately, you can’t take a larger plane because of the short runway. However, once you have off-loaded you can come back for the boys, it’s only a four-hour round trip. Now, the fact the island just appeared overnight and is already covered with trees and thick vegetation makes it quite an enigma.’

‘It also has caves that shine and glint,’ added Ape. ‘So they could contain valuable jewels.

‘Strange vibrations have been felt coming from the island as well, and we need to find out what is causing it. And that is why we will need the highly advanced technology you are taking. The operation is top secret, you cannot tell anyone, and that means Polly, Alison or India.’

    ‘Of course Sir.’

‘Good lad Hamish.’ They shook hands. ‘In the beginning, you will do what you do best - fly. I have at your disposal several planes and helicopters, one of which you will choose at your discretion, and I will pay you double your existing wage. That is all you need to know right now, so, when can you start?’

‘Immediately, but I would have to let Ice Air know, I could take some leave Sir.’ Hamish was excited, this was a new adventure and he couldn’t wait to get started.

‘I own Ice Air, so already done,’ Lord Knightly said. He sat back, pleased with this day’s work. ‘Now it’s time for that lunch you promised.’

As soon as Polly heard her name mentioned she listened to the end of the conversation. ‘Did you hear that? Well, he is not going without me.’

‘You always get to do the good things; I’m going too,’ India piped up.

‘Do you see what you’ve done Polly?’ Alison said. ‘India, you’re being stupid and you Polly, are being ridiculous.’

‘Shush, Hamish is coming,’ Polly said, and girls rushed into the kitchen to start putting lunch on the on the trays.

‘What’s taking so long?’ Hamish asked. ‘You’ve been in here for ages and we are famished!’

‘It’s just about ready, Hamish. What were you and Lord Knightly talking about?’

‘Not terribly much Polly, but hurry, I have a lot to do.’

They all enjoyed lunch, and as they left Lord Knightly told Hamish to be at the airport at six the following morning. Polly had already decided she was going stow away and go with Hamish to the Enchanted Island, despite everything he had said. It would only be for a day, and if she were needed she could call in sick.

    Three girls and a dog

The following morning, Hamish headed for the hanger.

Hiding in the hanger, watching Hamish load up the Blue Cloud, were three potential stowaways and a dog.

‘Is that everything Ape? I think Lord Knightly wants us to leave before any officials arrive to question us. The island has been labelled out of bounds till the powers that be check it’s safe to land.’

‘Yeah, I think everything’s on board, so let’s get going.’

‘Right, I’ll get my briefcase from the car. Anything else in the car you need?’

‘I’ll come with you, just in case,’ Ape said.

Polly stood. This was her chance to get on board. As she was creeping to the plane, she saw Alison, India and Fifi and was immediately furious. ‘What are you doing here?’ She whispered. ‘How did you expect us all to hide in a small plane, you idiots! You two can just go straight back home this very minute, and take the dog.’

‘Why should you go instead of me?’ India piped up. ‘I’m Hamish’s favourite, and he prefers Alison to you, Polly.’

‘Because it’s dangerous, you stupid idiot brat,’ Polly said, through clenched teeth. ‘You just wait until I tell Hamish you were going to stow away on his plane. And you’re only thirteen!’

‘Is that right, Polly? Well, I’ll tell him you were going to stow away too.’

Alison butted in. ‘Shush, they’re coming back,’

The three girls and the dog scurried to the plane and hid amongst the equipment. It was not easy - the back of the plane was full to the top, and India was shoving Alison so hard as she tried to hide Alison thought she would get pushed out of a window.

Polly was sure they would be seen, and she sighed with relief as Hamish switched on the engine, and the light plane moved out of the hanger.

‘She’s a bit sluggish,’ Ape said. ‘I hope we haven’t overloaded?’

‘Should we check? It’s a long journey; I’d hate to run out of petrol.’

‘Nah, we were careful with the weight, it should be right. Let’s get going - I would like to get there and back before dark.

Polly shook her fist at Alison and India. ‘You idiots,’ she whispered, ‘if this plane crashes and we get killed. I will totally blame you two.’

Luckily no one heard, including the two girls.

They all settled down, and having found some soft padding it was quite pleasant lying amongst the equipment, and soon they were fast asleep.

The sudden violent bouncing of the plane woke Polly, and she could not believe her ears. Hamish was yelling. ‘Mayday - Mayday.’ As he tried to control the plane. She looked out of the window, and although it was only twelve noon, thunderous black clouds entirely enveloped the plane. Lightning flashed, as thunder deafened all on board.

‘We have to ditch! The plane is starting to break up. It’s probably too much weight! We should have offloaded some things. You said she was a bit sluggish as we took off.’

Ape tried to make a joke as he said ‘It’s probably that huge breakfast you ate, Hamish.

Hamish grunted then said. ‘Ha-ha, very funny.’ Despite the fact he was desperately worried, he grinned.

‘Any idea how far we are from the Enchanted Isle?’ asked Ape.

‘I’m not sure, but we should be close by. Visibility is down to nil, I’m not even sure if we are over land or sea! I think we should get below this cloud, and hope to God, there are no mountains ahead.

As Hamish pushed the joystick forward bringing them closer to land, the lowering of the landing gear waking Alison and India. Polly, who was already awake, knew she
