Introduction
Being in business for oneself is not an easy road and not for the faint-hearted. There are numerous challenges involved. Being an entrepreneur may appeal to those who long for true independence, the ability to chart ones own destiny, and live out a dream. For many starting a business comes out of necessity as other paths are closed by downsizing or other loss of vocational options. Some of us have fallen into entrepreneurialism and discovered it to be a better fit than traditional employment.
This book had its beginnings in blog posts that were originally published online, in which I explored various issues relating to starting and running my own businesses. I have been involved personally in several types of self-employment and entrepreneurialism and hence have gained some experience along the way, which I hope may be of use to others.
Though often overlooked, the soft skills in areas of mindset, visualization and mindfulness play an important in achieving success in all of life.
This book is written for those who may be considering starting a business. I write by way of an introduction to share some of my own experiences and observations. The articles included touch on various subjects; the conclusions are intended to be neither a definitive nor an exhaustive treatment. They are offered merely as a starting point or guide to points the reader may not have considered.

The Practical Dreamer In Business
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
—Eleanor Roosevelt
Do you dream of owning your own business someday? If you could do anything, what would you really like to do?
Your dreams are an expression of who you are. No matter how impossible they may seem to be, your dreams are an essential part of your identity. From one tiny seed, a dream may eventually germinate and grow into something amazing.
When Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse, it launched his cartoon business and eventually Disneyland. Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when the business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself were at our lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner,
he said.
