Alex steered his Harley down the street and brought it to a stop on the street next to a restaurant. He then swung his leg over the bike and got off before removing his helmet, placing it on the steering bar before running his fingers through his long hair. He was feeling a little nervous as he pulled his leather jacket tighter around him and walked away from the motorbike. His cell phone vibrated in his pocket and he swept it out quickly.

Have you gotten the goods yet?

No, not yet, but I'm working on it, and will you please stop asking every few minutes, Alexander Gabriel said, glancing around just to make sure that there was nobody around him to hear what he was saying. I need more time to get this done, I want it to pull off smoothly.

How smooth, I can bet that you haven't even entered the store yet, have you? What kind of son are you, definitely not mine! Look, I gave this job to you as a test so that you can prove to me that you still have what it takes, but I'm starting to see that I was so mistaken. You don’t have what it takes, Alex could hear the disgust in his father’s voice and he tried himself to ignore it even though it was almost impossible.

Alexander had age old guilt that haunted him, making him feel as if it was going to overwhelm him. A familiar irritating wave of emotion coursed through him as he leaned on the wall of the coffee shop for support.

Listen to me very carefully dad, it has been such a long time since I did anything of this kind and I have become sort of rusty. I think that you should actually cut me some slack here and just trust in me, I'll get it done, and very soon, Alex said, hating his father for making him feel like this even after his father already knew what he had been through.

I have the feeling that you are chickening out here, that is the easiest thing to do after getting caught once, I know that. That is why I need you to jump back into the saddle and focus on the job at hand. Get it done, Alex. A little jail time is not enough to scare someone with my blood, a true Gabriel, his dad said, and it was easy for him to say that because he was not the one who had been thrown into jail.

His father had never been caught in his fifty plus years as a mobster and he definitely had no idea what it would be like to be put behind the slammer where a judge gave him his sentence as if he was God. When Alex had received the jail sentence, he had felt as if his world had just come to an end and his dad had no idea how that had felt whatsoever.

Dad, if you were the one who had been locked up, maybe you would have a reason to talk, Alex said, opening his eyes and focusing on the store that was across the street from him.

The sign on the door read closed, and the displays did not have any jewelery on them, but Alex knew that the owner would come by anytime to open up. He had been watching her every morning for the past few days and she arrived to open the store promptly at nine on the dot. Alex had rode his motorcycle to keep an eye on the store every morning an hour before it opened, and it allowed him to study her daily morning routine before she opened the store. He would watch her cleaning the shelves and then bringing out the jewelery to arrange it neatly on the shelves. His father was right, Alex had not yet entered the store despite the fact that he had been lurking around it for the past week, trying to gather up the nerve to go into the store so that he could get to see the gem that his dad so desperately wanted to own.

And then there was the stealing of the bracelet so that he could get back into his father’s good books. This was a small tourist sea town and Alex did not think that it would be too difficult to grab the bracelet, make his dad happy and even make a couple of good bucks off it to get him back on his feet. After that, he could look for a regular job and even join another biking club. His
