If you have little or no funds at your disposal, there seems to be no hope, no way, of even getting started on the road to a richer, finer life underpinned by financial security. Achieving this position appears only a distant dream; and without the will to do something about it there is little doubt that is how things will remain. But with a spark of determination, perseverance, will power and the attitude that you will try anything, (short of illegal) there is always hope.

With the crucial help of a wife, husband or partner, however, you can make it. We succeeded, my wife and I – maybe not to great riches, but enough to get by comfortably. In the course of doing so, however, there were one or two scary moments and one pivotal point, when an all-important decision had to be made: We burned our boats, forgot about all the security we had built up, such as with my safe job that was mine for life and the pension that went with it. We were forced to ignore the fear of what might happen with old age, to our family and all who depended on us.

You must have the courage to face similar cliff-edge decisions, where you must jump – or forget about it all. Also, you can certainly make it on your own, but remember, it is so much more reassuring to have someone beside you giving encouragement when all seems dark; with whom worries can be shared – and who will often rely on your support in return.
