Retire from Your First Pay Check - Joseph Silva
SUCCESS
L OOK, ANY OF us can be successful in whatever we choose to do. However, we must realize that to be successful, we—you and I—must think success. To start, you must stop thinking negatively, making excuses for not doing the right thing. While taking that first step to success, most people look for an excuse just to justify their excuses.
What I am saying is that anybody can be successful in life, but you have to take certain steps. Let’s start with self-motivation because self-motivation is something like a spark that starts a fire on a cold day. Once the fire gets going, it just feels good. It’s the same with self-motivation; once you start seeing your abilities, your consistencies, you will feel good and go on to your next steps.
Let’s call the next step courage, determination, commitment, and setting your goals. Someone once said an old cliché, The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
This is to say that all your good intentions, all your good ideas, and all your planning will not do you any good if you don’t take action. You can sit there and make all kinds of excuses, or you can say, I’m going to do
or I’m going to start tomorrow or next week, next month, next year when I get some money.
The list is endless. Fact is that making excuses is much like that diet most people plan between Christmastime and New Year’s. It usually lasts about a week, so it really never gets anywhere. You can have the best intention in the world, but it only works if you do something about it.
You have seen time and time again incredible people who made incredible decisions at the spur of a moment and succeeded. The fact is, most of these people are people just like you and me, and nearly all of them didn’t know what their capabilities were. We can all do incredible things, but you have to make that decision to take one step and let go of the negative side of you.
Once you get rid of that negative side of positive thinking, you’ll see that everything starts coming together. Once you realize your success, things just get better and easier.
Now you may be saying, Oh yeah, you are saying all this, but I’m still not sure. I still don’t know how I’m supposed to accomplish all this.
• I have no spare money.
• I don’t have a good education.
• I don’t have a high self-esteem.
• I don’t have any experience.
• I don’t like being frustrated.
• I don’t think I have what it takes.
• I don’t have any extra time.
• I can’t give up smoking.
• I can’t give up drinking.
• I won’t stop watching television on my days off.
• I don’t have time to exercise.
Again, the list of excuses is endless!
Think of all these things as your most evil enemy that you must get rid of.
Our performance and/or achievements are usually measured by our success.
To be successful in life is to be able to motivate yourself to be successful.
This book is written to motivate you to be successful, and in turn, I hope that you can inspire others to be successful as well. I have always been motivated to be successful—the feeling that you get deep inside when you know that you have achieved your goals regardless of how big or small it is.
You must challenge yourself to do bigger and better things. You must challenge yourself and take action, take responsibility, and implement the kind of life you want and deserve. You must always stay focused on your own happiness and your own best interest because there are more excuses for failure than there are for success.
There are many reasons for success. Success is pride and the feeling of personal achievement regardless of what size, large or small, and regardless of age, race, sex, or color of your skin.
As I will say from time to time throughout this book, every one of us has some kind of ambition in life, the desire to achieve some goal in life. Unfortunately, this is something that is not taught in school, a motivation to get you that spark or desire. So for most of us, that spark won’t come until you are in your middle age. My hope in this book is to get you motivated for you to get that first spark to start a better life, a brighter future.
Now don’t get the idea that I’m going to give you some crazy scheme on how to get rich quick because I do not know any that works, but what I am going to do is give you some ideas to better your life.
It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor or what level of education you have or if you are on cloud nine or down in the dumps. My goal is just to give you the motivation and some inspiration and ideas to make life a little better and hope you can retire without financial worries.
YOUR DREAMS
S ET YOUR DREAMS, and set your destiny. None of us ever choose our place of birth, but we can all choose our own destiny.
Whatever your dreams in life are, it is up to you to make them happen. However, you must prepare yourself for some changes, stumbles, and disappointments along the way. Be ready for some disappointments along the way. Remember, I said there is no such thing as a one size fits all. An average person will change careers twelve times or more during their lifetime. I’m not trying to discourage anyone from pursuing their dreams. Remember to set your dreams and goals high, but be realistic and flexible. Remember that your dream is not always your destiny. To be successful, you must always realize your strengths and weaknesses.
Now the fact that nearly all of us want to be wealthy is not to be taken lightly. The problem for most people is not planning ahead. Unfortunately, this is not taught in any high school; you will acquire training and knowledge in college or by doing your research.
If you are a parent, regardless of your age, chances are you probably have gone through some financial problems of your own. So to keep your child or children from going through the same situation, you should start teaching your children to save and the importance of savings. We’ll get more into detail on this later in this book. When parents
