Kira Temple final chat transcript, March 2006, before her disappearance.
Cass swam in a sea of dreams. Werewolves and cool green forest, bathing in warm water and eating hot roasted meat sprinkled with salt. A touch, stroking down her thigh. Past, present, future, the real and imagined blurred together.
In the past week since she’d come to the den, every time she slept, she dreamed.
In all the dreams, wrapped around them, appearing from nowhere, were the Alphas. Sometimes pulling her into bed. Sometimes running through the trees. Sometimes she was a nymph riding on a wolf in the twilight. Sometimes she was a teenager taking a different path.
There were times when sleep was full of spikes, the dangerous past hauled up and still found to be sharp and deadly and she would wake, gulping air, until Edon or Rey would move and she would feel their touch and the terror would vanish.
Sleep came easy under their ministrations. Panting and still trembling, she’d collapse and one or both would curl up around her. Rey had a habit of biting her neck if she talked after mating, the touch of his teeth dragging her under. Edon would smile and pull her close and in his embrace she’d slip into sleep.
But rest did not come easy.
The werewolves were insatiable, wanting her day and night and that was a delicious problem to have. Although they were nocturnal, since the attack half the pack was up during the day and the other half during the night. Both Edon and Rey seemed to be awake at all hours. Although the cabin with its soft bed and hot water sat close by, Cass slept in the den at night, protected by the werewolf pack.
Cass tried to sleep during the day but it was near impossible. There were birds, actual songbirds, twittering away outside her window! And even with thick pelts trying to keep the room dark, light found its way in.
Then, just when it felt like she’d gotten to sleep she’d awake, an Alpha sliding into bed beside her, pulling her from sleep with the touch of his fingers, the sharpness of his teeth, the insistent hardness between his legs. She couldn’t resist, her body responding instantly and the warm haze of sleep would turn into crazed heat as one or both of the Alphas drove her wild.
Sometimes she awoke to both of them sleeping with her. Sometimes she was alone, Nia shaking her awake to bring her food, to take her to the spring to bathe.
Cass felt she was in a sordid sleep deprivation experiment. Never adjusting to a proper sleep cycle. No idea what time it was. No set meal times and only the rising and setting of the sun to mark the days passing. Just the Alphas, in her dreams and her days, their touch a call and an anchor.
She woke up at the light fingers on her thigh. She blinked through heavy eyelids, the blur before her resolving into Edon, asleep. As she watched him she felt the touch trail up her body, dipping over her curves. Although it seemed no time at all since she’d been last pinned under a strong werewolf, she moved, pressing herself back and feeling the hard length behind her.
Rey, Rey, Rey.
She felt the touch pause and then start again, Rey’s finger tracing up between her shoulder-blades.
Rey pushed himself closer to her and she felt her body respond. She often slept naked, Rey insisting she did and then pulling clothes off her if she didn’t. Although he was utterly domineering and scared her on some levels, there was a joy and excitement in disobedience. He would find her dressed and then silently strip her down, even as she struggled against him.
As she moved she saw Edon open his eyes, a slit, and the first touch of a smile on his lips.
Edon, Edon, Edon.
The two Alphas were so different in some ways but so alike in others. Edon was civilized but with a wildness simmering below it. Rey was wild all the way through. The wild one desired her and took what he wanted. The civilized one held back and then broke free. Both were good for the ego.
Cass was surprised in herself to find she wanted both of them equally. On the surface of it Edon was civilized but wild, dangerous but in control whereas Rey was simply dangerous. It seemed Edon would be the better choice but her body had decided: both, please.
Although Edon hadn’t been civilized much since she’d arrived. Between the attack and sliding
