About this ebook

‘Banna and Bree Blown to Mission Beach’ is set in beautiful Clump Mountain National Park in the coastal community of Mission Beach, Australia. Banna and Bree are baboons that visit Mission Beach from Botswana in Africa. They meet some uniquely Australian animals such as a koala, kangaroos, a wombat and cassowaries from the rainforest and the dolphins, turtles, dugongs and stingrays of The Great Barrier Reef. When a cyclone threatens the area, the animals unite to protect each other on land and in the water. They came up with plans, implement strategies and work together when it becomes a matter of survival for the animals on the land and sea.

    Chapter 1

Deep in the swampy grasslands of the Okavango Delta lived two baboons called Banna and Bree. They lived in a troupe of Chacma baboons where every day they rolled in the grass, bounded from tree to tree, and from bush to bush, where they hid at the first sign of danger. Life was good.

Banna, the taller and heavier of the two and a male, was strong and playful. He loved his family and was very protective of his friends. He had a wicked sense of humour and enjoyed playing tricks on the other animals. Bree, a young female who stood almost a head shorter than Banna, was athletic and loved being active and healthy. She was a good problem solver as she was very clever. Bree was kind to everybody and was always helping the injured animals of the Delta. She had friends everywhere who wanted to play and explore.

Banna and Bree were great friends who looked forward to fun and adventure and rose with the sun each and every morning so that they could play together and see what the day brought.

It was here in the Delta where the water flowed down from the wet season in Angola flooding the dry plains every year. The new waterways created a bountiful oasis for the animals after a long dry season.

On this particular day, Banna and Bree were playing at the waterhole with the other baboons when the bright yellows and pinks of the evening sky started to darken, and the chill of the winds began to whip around them. The leaves of the ground began to spin. They were curious and, knowing they had seen the wind blow up like this before, moved closer to where the wind was spinning the fastest.

It had been months since Banna and Bree had been on an adventure, and they were both excited to see where the next one would take them. The leaves whipped up around their faces, and then everything became quiet and still.

The cloud shaped like a beautiful lady appeared before them. She had her hands clasped in front of her and a warm smile on her face, just like she did the last time they saw her. Her smile was soothing and as she spoke they stood mesmerised.

"Banna and Bree, I am so happy to see you again, and again you came to me, so you must be keen to find out where I am going to send you this time. Our planet is amazing and it
