About this ebook
They were hoping one day to meet their sister Jenny, who lived on the other side of the freezing Antarctic. They said goodbye to their friends who were swimming to Hervey Bay, Queensland, where it is warm. They decided, after a few days, to go themselves. They were warned by their father to watch out for whaling boats, which they had a close call with. They passed by many sailing boats, ships, and bays. They also went past Botany Bay, and they rested at Bondi, close to the beach where the people were in awe of their breaches out of the water. They rested there before they moved on.

The Holiday Adventures of Bonza and Sonja - David Perry
CHAPTER 1
As usual it was a freezing morning in Antarctica where Bonza and Sonja, two young Humpback Whales lived with their mother and father and lots of other whales.
iceberg-832554.psdWinter became exceptionally cold so as the days grew shorter the excitement amongst the whales was increasing as they prepared for their yearly migration to warmer waters where they would gather to make friends and for the mothers to have their babies.
antarctica-2341288.psdAntarctica is right at the bottom of the world, there are no trees or grass just a solid mass of ice all year round.
Bonza and Sonja’s father used to live on the western side of Antarctica and swam with his parents every winter to Shark Bay in Western Australia. One year he decided to go to Hervey Bay in Queensland instead and that is how he met their mother.
When their daughter Jenny was born they returned to Antarctica and settled on the eastern side. Then, several years later they had Bonza and then Sonja came along. Jenny met her partner Fred in Hervey Bay and went to live on the western side and so it was the three siblings had never met.
Bonza and Sonja loved playing games amongst the huge icebergs that break away and float way out into the ocean.
One day as they slipped under the waves playing tag they felt odd vibrations and heard a strange pinging sound. Soon, they saw a huge grey shape many times larger than the biggest whale they had ever seen and it was coming straight towards them.
What is that?
Sonja cried as they hid behind an iceberg. "Do you think it’s dangerous Bonza?"
Bonza frowned and replied nervously, I believe it’s called a submarine. The old whales are always wary of such things so I think we should stay hidden until it moves away.
It looks very interesting though
Sonja said poking her head around the corner.
The next minute there was a loud bang and something very sharp attached to a rope flew into the ice right beside them! It grabbed a chunk of ice in its steely claw and then quickly withdrew back into the submarine. Bonza and Sonja got a terrible fright and took off as fast as they could, using the icebergs for cover.
No wonder the old whales don’t trust them
Sonja said still shaking. I think we would do well to heed their advice in future. Let’s get back and see if our friends want to go fishing.
Bonza and Sonja found about twenty of their friends and they all set off to help each other herd fish.
