About this ebook

The Call Center industry is like an onion. The more time you spend delving deeper into it, the more you realize that at the center of it all, there’s always something “funny” going on. And no matter what you do to prevent it, tears will come to your eyes.

A lot of people think that training is easy-all you do is stand at the front of a class and talk. That's not entirely true. Training the Prism: My Spectracular Journey is a collection of short stories that have played a significant role in the author's training career; brought to you in a wide variety of humor, sadness, curiosity, and sometimes that sense of je n’est ce quoi.

Training the Prism: My Spectracular Journey will have both wet behind the ears trainers and the seasoned veterans in tears of laughter and clamoring for more by the time he or she reaches the end. In addition to the short stories, a “Survival Guide” for aspiring trainers is also included. This book is not intended to discourage anyone from venturing towards this choice of career, but actually the opposite.

One would think that with the abundance of Call Centers all over the world, it would be the most obvious place to pick a job! My entry into this industry, however, was purely because of my mother. I clearly remember the article she read in a newspaper, which stated, “1) Are you the student who is always picked on for talking in class? 2) Are you the one who is always thrown out of the library for talking? 3) Are you the one who runs up your family’s phone bill with your constant telephone chats? If you answered “Yes” to one or all of these, then GE Capital is looking for you!” I worked my way through most of the departments but finally found a home within Training. The main reason being that I love to talk, but what was better; I was getting paid to do it! Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher, which later matriculated into the desire to become a trainer. However, walking into that first classroom was like falling down the proverbial rabbit hole into Wonderland where nothing seemed the way it should—or the way you would want it to be. And, it was that senseof unpredictability that fuelled my love for the job! As an avid reader, my passion for books was prominent in my training sessions. And, in an attempt to cultivate my writing skills, I dabbled as a writer and editor for my department’s monthly bulletin and performed other literary activities. But, my passion for and interaction with people, is what really brought this book to fruition.
