For ADULTS Only. All Characters Over 18.

Ray aimlessly flipped through the channels. There was nothing on of interest except the usual late night talk shows, decade-old reruns, and movies that had been on dozens of times before. Ray would linger on one channel for a few moments before going to the next, and then the one after that, passing through everything his cable package had to offer before coming right back around to where he started ten minutes ago.

There was never anything on during any weekend.

Almost all of the news programs appeared to be talking about that strange purple-colored comet that was visible for all of the northern hemisphere. Mauve's Band, or whatever it was. Ray had little interest for it. Just hurry up and go away. It's like people haven't seen meteors before. But that cosmic guest kept all of the news stations talking about it around the clock it seemed, discussing what it was made of, where it had come from, and if it posed any danger to the planet by passing so close. Others argued that the radiation emitting from it could also be unhealthy, though no one had any scientific evidence supporting any case.

Ray stopped on one such program now, featuring a wild-haired scientist babbling on about the risks. " ... intense gamma radiation, it ... our measurements are unheard of. Nothing on this planet comes close to emitting the same amount of energy that this comet is. The American people should stay indoors while Mauve's Band passes by. We don't know the full potential of this thing ... it could pose short-term and long-term complications to health and brain function. Everyone shares the risk by going outside and ..."

Ray eventually flipped the channel, rolling his eyes. They'll pay anyone to come talk on these shows nowadays, he thought. Shortly after, he turned to a channel featuring a similarly-dressed man holding a bible and preaching about the end of the world, spitting out one doomsday prophecy after another and turning to the camera to warn the audience of imminent doom. Ray laughed.

The weekends weren't always this lonely. Ray remembered when he and Christian used to go out club-hopping every Friday and Saturday, and if they were lucky there would be a girl accompanying the both of them back home. Ray more than once glanced over at his wallet and keys, itching to pick up girls again like the old days, but it just wasn't the same when he was out alone. Now that Christian was married, it was rare that they ever hung out at all anymore. Ray went for his phone anyway, thinking it was worth a shot.

Christian picked up after three rings. Hello?

"Hey man, it's Ray. Whatcha' up to on this fine evening?"

I dunno, dude. Just staying inside and hanging out with Heidi. How about you?

Nothing. Ray couldn't blame him. Heidi was one of Christian's trophies from a night on the town, only that trophy had stayed around longer than all the other ones and now wore a ring.

Is there something wrong? Christian asked after a long pause.

"Nah. I just ... uh ... wanted to see if you ... wanted to go ... out, or something. You know, like the old times. Hit up some clubs and grab something to drink. Bill's has half-price longnecks tonight, and you know some of the girls that work there."

    Yeah, but ...

"Or Jimmy's Bikini Bar. I remember one time you convinced one of the waitresses to flash us."

The voice on the other end chuckled. Yeah, that was pretty funny, but ...

"Or shit, we might still look young enough to sneak onto the campus and hit up some parties. They won't ask any questions. Those college girls are just as fine as they always are."

    About that ...

"Or hell, that one time we got shitfaced on
