    Chapter 1

    Southern Belle

She was born in Atlanta, GA to parents James and Janet Jones; her name is April. She is a very feisty red head with freckles to match. She is the apple of her daddy’s eye and the love of momma’s heart. She was a tomboy growing up with 2 older brothers who loved to play rough with her. Don’t play with her so rough! Janet yelled at Brian. Awe mom she’s tough she can take it! Brian said. I’m a big girl momma and I can take it. April said. Ok but be nice to her! Janet said. April’s other brother Rodger liked to play but a little nicer than Brian; Come on Rodger let’s play bounce the baby! Brian said. NO! Janet yelled. Brian liked to cause trouble and Rodger was laid back and followed everyone else.

When she was 10 years old James, Brian, and Rodger built a treehouse in the backyard and it was just for the boys; No girls allowed! Brian said. What about me? April asked. No you’re a girl! Brian said. We should make an exception she is our sister. Rodger said. No exceptions! Brian said. April went inside crying; Momma I hate Brian he won’t let me play in their treehouse. It’s ok because we get to make cookies and we won’t share with the boys! Janet said. They baked cookies and as Brian, Rodger, and James came in to the wonderful smell of freshly baked cookies; May I have a cookie? Brian asked. No because you won’t allow April in your treehouse so these cookies are just for girls! Janet said. That’s not fair! Brian yelled.

Janet took him by the arm and put soap in his mouth for yelling at her. Well you didn’t make an exception for your sister and you don’t ever yell at your mother like that either! James said to Brian who now trying to get the taste of soap out of his mouth. Mom I’m sorry I yelled at you please forgive me. Brian said. Janet forgave him; Brian never snapped at her again like that. April gave Brian a cookie; Enjoy your treehouse I get to bake cookies with mom! April said. Brian appreciated the gesture then said Would you like to see the inside of the treehouse? Yes please! April said with excitement. She climbed up the oak tree and saw inside; Wow this is awesome! April said. Thank you! Brian said. Janet called them in for dinner; as April was climbing down the tree she fell and broke her arm. Ouch! I think I broke my arm! April screamed.

James rushed out to her; he picked her up and carried her to his truck then sped to the hospital. The doctor took an x-ray and confirmed she broke her arm; Yep it’s broken; we’ll just put a cast on your arm and you’ll be in it for 6 weeks. The Doctor said. 6 weeks; but its summer and I play softball! April exclaimed. Sorry sweetheart but 6 weeks and no activity. The Doctor said. Oh phooey! April said. On the way home from the hospital James stopped and got ice cream just for them; Don’t tell your mother or your brother’s ok? James said. Thank you daddy; I promise I won’t tell anyone! April said. April got her traditional chocolate flavor; "I feel
