Kirsty tore the envelopes into small pieces without even opening them and threw them into the recycling bin. She knew what was in them – more final demands. Things had gone from bad, to worse, to bloody ridiculous. Her student loan lasted about the first month of each term and then the nineteen year old undergraduate had to sustain herself completely with her meagre part time earnings from pulling pints behind the student union bar. It was no good, something had to give.

Things got even worse an hour later when Mandy, her flatmate got in. Mr Hussein’s been hassling me all day. We’re two months behind in the rent.

Kirsty sighed. What are we going to do mate? There’s just more going out than coming in and each month the overdraft gets bigger.

Mandy threw a newspaper at her. It’s a bit late for me but you could always try this! It took Kirsty a couple of seconds to pin down the right article and then she had it. An eighteen year old Russian girl had auctioned her own virginity for $75,000.

Kirsty didn’t even have to think about it. Do you know what doll? If I can be guaranteed more than twenty grand, I’d do this in a flash.

Well, we’ll just have to set a reserve on you then!

First things first, they had to take some pictures. Mandy insisted on battering Kirsty’s already sad looking credit card with a hair stylist, make up and some sexy lingerie. Money well spent, she insisted. The older girl then borrowed some expensive looking camera kit from an ex-boyfriend and turned their lounge into a photographic studio.

Kirsty was a good looking girl and Mandy had always found it strange that she hadn’t had sex yet. She was five foot five, slim with nice breasts; she had straight blonde hair and a lovely smile. Mandy was intent on showing her best friend off to her best advantage. She picked out a little pink teddy in a semi-transparent satin with a matching pair of knickers and arranged her in lots of alluring poses, shooting off dozens of pictures. By the time they had finished, there were loads of suitable photos to choose from and they perused them together on Kirsty’s laptop. Wow, said Mandy. I’d have you myself.

You can’t afford me, Kirsty giggled, kissing her mate on the lips.

The girls spent most of the afternoon writing an ad to go on eBay. After lots of writing and deleting and some good-natured arguing, they eventually settled on a form of words: ‘Gorgeous and very sexy teenager wants to lose her virginity to the rich man who is prepared to pay the most for her.’ They agreed a reserve of five thousand pounds and posted it before going to the pub.

For the first few days no one bid at all, although the number of watchers quickly jumped into the hundreds.
