I am a daughter of the soil
Does it matter whether my hair is afro-natural, afro-relaxed or afro-stretched?
If my skin is mahogany, charcoal, caramel or ivory, does this make me less of an African?
Whether I eat with my hands or fine cutlery, I am your daughter
Why do you treat me like a foreign object in my own homeland?
I am a daughter of the soil.
I am a daughter of the soil
Why do you taunt me when I speak with a Western twang?
Why do you mock me when I adorn my African beads on fine silk?
Why do you ridicule me when I return home, no longer a caterpillar but a butterfly?
I will sing my birth right
I am a daughter of the African soil.
I am a daughter of the African soil
I sang I’m African yesterday, I rhymed Africa today, I will chant my birth right tomorrow
I rejoice my inheritance with fingers in my ears and happiness in my pocket
I praise my homeland with a poetic vibe in my dance
I call Africa home and home Africa
I am a daughter of the African soil cropped up from the Shona roots.

They could not understand why
My response was still soap and water
They wondered why
He could not spell soap and water
Yes, it was just soap and water.
She tried to raise a man
But not even soap and water
