About this ebook

A legend that has haunted the evil minds of the English Lords for centuries. A man with a green outfit and green mask who robs the rich and feeds the poor; who is more popular than the evil King John; who uses wood magic to turn away the dark curses of the nobles who use them to enslave the commoners and soldiers they use for their nefarious ends.

Born during the Haunted Years, which began during the reign of King Alexander the Great, a well beloved king who fell to dark magic during the Passion Wars between England and France, then continuing through the warring years between England and the Ottoman Empire as they both strived to conquer Asia to their own ends.

During those foul years many a common man was used for common fodder and to feed the demons that haunted those times. A few men of great mystic power stood between the evil empires in attempts to soften the blow of the malignancy that was being spread, but the Dark One, in allegiance to the late Kings Frederick and now the King John, once a Court Executioner, was spreading his talons of deceit and trickery everywhere.

Sheriff Noddington, late of Yorkshire, sought to quell the rebellious masses by destroying Robin Hood, the only man who stood between him and ascending the throne of the failing King John.

This story is about the birth of a new hero, Robin of the Woods, the son of Robin Hood and the successor to the Wood Magic that his father wielded with the help of the White Fire of the Wood and Earth Peoples.

    Chapter One

    England

    Sherwood Forest

    Night

The ancient Forest of Sherwood sprawls like a mythological beast, clutching at the lands for leagues in all four directions of the compass. Its trees are flung thickly about, some clasping great boulders in the clutches of their roots, others thrusting mighty crowns high into the clouds above, flaunting their earth beauty against the majesty of the setting sun.

Tiny creatures sling themselves from one branch to the other as the sounds of traffic grow beneath them. A few chipmunks gather to look a moment at the armored men marching silently below, then chitter angrily at them.

One soldier makes as if to fire an arrow at them, but is stayed by a Sergeant who shakes his head, putting a finger to his lips.

The chipmunks, sensing the dread and foreboding of the dark travelers below, leap away, making noises that alert various Jays and Night Birds causing them to be startled and leap into the air in a cloud of wings and calls of distress.

The Sergeant below scowls at the soldier who started all the commotion and makes a gesture across his throat. The soldier shudders and falls back, his eyes wide with fear now as the Sergeant makes his way forward quickly to speak to a very thin man who leads the soldiers ahead.

The thin man wears the robes of royalty, with a thick layer of net armor over the robes as well as gleaves and boots of armor that glisten in the approaching dark.

The thin man hears the Sergeant approaching and nods to him. The Sergeant speaks quickly and with a low voice, making motions towards the rear.

The soldier who frightened the chipmunks sees the gesture and drops his weapons to run. A moment later about twenty arrows fly into his back and he drops dead before the tramping feet of the other soldiers, who don't slow one bit, but actually step on him as they move forward, adding to the horror of that moment.

The Sergeant smiles, then makes a slight bow to the Sheriff and heads to the rear again, soldiers hiding glances from him as he travels past. This is a man to be feared, because he's ambitious. One who almost rivals the Sheriff in deeds of torture and death.

Sheriff Noddington, the man in the royal robes, pulls his cloak more tightly about him, adjusting it to keep out the crawling cold of the approaching night and the mist that begins to rise about him and
