The Lady of the Mist
Chapter One: The Dream
Floating. Floating. Floating. Not going right or left, or up and down, just a strict, but soft sensation of floating. The feeling you get just before you wake up sometimes, as if you were part way in your body, and part way somewhere else.
Colors whirled about my face, caressing me, possessing me with gentleness, like delicate fingers tracing the contours of my cheek and jaw. I have never felt as good as at that moment, except perhaps in the arms of the woman I love.
A soothing tingling goes up and down my spine, but I have no spine, I am just an aura of happiness bobbing in infinite time and space. I turn around to see where I am and I'm floating above our planet, which turns so peacefully below, its oceans bowls of green and blue, yellows and oranges. The sun kisses and caresses our world as gently as a mother her baby. I can feel its love for me and everyone that lives on that tiny spot in space.
For tiny it is.
When I turn my attention outwards towards space, which is where I appear to be floating, I can see stars as far as my imagination can stretch and beyond. The universe is so vast that it is impossible to count even the smallest number of galaxies, solar systems, and planets that orbit and move throughout it. And it's not standing still. It's in a state of flux. Constantly growing and expanding.
There is no Big Bang, because it always has been here, with parts of it expanding more so and other parts less so, but always moving, moving, moving.
That is when I feel the urge to climb on wings of light about me and fling myself towards the furthest edges of the universe. I go faster and faster, speeding past the moon like a bullet, then past Mars and Jupiter and Saturn till the vast and cold Neptune and Pluto fall away from
