About this ebook

This short book tells you what percentage chance each day in the calendar year is a fast day according to the fast days of the Catholic Church in the 1950's. There are 53 fast days during the year. Only three (3) of the days are fixed on the same day each year. The other 50 fast days are based on the movable calendar of feast days in the Church. Many days during the year are can never be fast days. Other days are a near certainty. As 50 of the 53 fast days are based on when Easter is, knowing the probability of Easter days is essential to calculating the fast days. This is a fun little book to learn about the Catholic faith, math and the calendar.

Chapter One: The Fast Days of the Year and Days During the Year That Can Never Be Fast Days

In the one, holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, there are many fast days where Catholics are required to reduce their food intake to do penance for sins. As a Catholic who follows the Pre-Vatican II fast laws, and as someone who is fascinated with math and statistics, I wanted to find out what the percentage chance each day during the year are fast days. I follow the fast days that were active in the Church in 1952 that are promulgated by The Roman Catholic in their Roman Catholic Calendar. They publish the fast days that received the Imprimatur of Bishop John F. O’Hara, Archbishop of Philadelphia in 1953. The fast days of the Church Year are:

    1. All 40 days of Lent (the 40 days preceding Easter that are not Sundays prior to Easter, the day Jesus, the son of God, rose from the dead after being crucified for our sins). The fasting of 40 days parallels the fast of Christ in the desert which ended in Matthew 4 and Luke 4 with Him being tempted by the devil

    2. Ember Days of the change of season. The Ember Days of Lent are redundant. There are three other Ember Days. They are the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday following Pentecost (the birthday of the Church where the Holy Ghost descended on the Apostles
