I am a stay at home mom. When not reading or writing I enjoy the outdoors with my family. After I completed my Bachelor’s in CJ I wondered what to pursue. I started reading books and was hooked. I eventually put my degree to use writing stories that centered around my studies. I enjoy bringing my characters to life and hope you will enjoy as well.

    Chapter One

Summer 1979, I am only five. I see the shadow and I am scared. Who is it? Is it Daddy or is it Stephan? Then it is happening. I feel the weight of his body on top of me. I can’t move. I want to move but I can’t. I am trapped. I try to scream but words don’t come. There is no sound but the heavy breathing. And that’s when I wake up.

It has been the same dream for nineteen years. I know what happened I just don’t want to remember. I have blocked out so much from my childhood afraid of remembering all the horrible events that took place. I don’t want to remember because I may break more than what I already have. Fuck I say aloud, I have really got to get this under control. I get out of bed and head for the shower, sweat pouring off me from my nightmare. It is the same one that has plagued me for years. I block it out and get ready for the day.

I am off ready to start the day at work. To everyone around me I am a normal 24 year old from a normal upbringing. However, my life has been anything but normal. While my parents are divorced, they are both well-respected people in the city of Plano Texas where we live. My mother never remarried and has her own law firm. My Dad is married and I have a stepbrother through his wife. My dad is a well-known Cardiologist in the area. Me, I am following in my Mother’s shoes, currently employed by Walters & Kincaid Law Office in downtown Dallas as a paralegal. She is still pushing me to continue my education, but I am satisfied with the place I am at in life until today.

My day starts as any other day would. I currently work under Michael Kincaid III in criminal defense. Since he is in court this morning, I will be meeting with a new client to do an intake and report to Michael as soon as he returns. Nothing unusual at all, until the client walks through the door. Esteban Diaz is his name, he is unlike any man I have ever seen, and I have seen some fine ones. With gorgeous tanned skin, silky black hair, and the blackest eyes one has ever seen, he is beyond what one would call sexy. Yep, this is a man that can break a woman and fast.

Jolene greets him as I am running through the files for another case. Jolene asks, Can I help you?

He responds with a smooth, sexy voice, Yes, I have an appointment this morning with Mr. Kincaid III for 9:00.

She tells him to have a seat and she would let them know he was here. Then turning to me says, Marissa, Kincaid’s 9 o’clock is here.

Yes, I see. I’ll take him back with me, I tell her. I walk to the edge of the reception desk and say Mr. Diaz if you will come with me.

I take him into my office and ask him to sit in one of the chairs in front of my desk. Mr. Diaz, I am Marissa Donavon. Mr. Kincaid is out of the office in court this morning so I will be talking with you about your case, I tell him.

He speaks with a sexy, smooth voice, Miss Donavon, I have quite the charge against me. Two weeks ago, I was arrested for conspiracy to sell and distribute Cocaine. I am currently out on a $750,000 bond. He then says, As you can see I am in need of legal counsel.

Ok, I say, I have to ask are you guilty?

He responds with Of course not. I was with someone that was in possession of a very large amount of the drug and had no knowledge they had it on them.

Are they willing to admit that? I ask.

    He simply says Yes.

This should peak my interest since no case is that easy when it comes to narcotics but I push the thought away, thinking there is no way this man could have done that. I have no clue why I am putting trust in him when I don’t even know him, but I am.

Mr. Diaz, I say, I am going to talk to Mr. Kincaid about your case and we will get all the information we can, then we will see what we can do. I can, however assure you this will not be cheap.

Miss Donavon, I can assure you, I can afford it he replies. Damn I have to get this
