In the not too distant future…
Scientists at the Max Plank Institute for Molecular Genetics will map out a gene given the markers of Ch05En.
The Fate Gene
A latent Ch05En gene destines someone for greatness. Maybe you'll be a rock star, or CEO of a Fortune 500. You might save somebody's life, or give birth to the greatest supporting actress of all time.
Maybe you'll be a superhero.
Those with powers often join the Global Society of Superheroes, known more commonly as the GSS. These people become Capes. They are our protectors in a world of infinite possibilities.
A world where the terrorist organization known as The Aggregate lives to instill fear in the masses.
Welcome to the world of Ch05En.
Where we're one suddenly-activated Fate Gene away from total salvation...
Or complete annihilation.

Open – First Time
The first time I killed someone, it wasn’t a big deal. We were fourteen, so it probably should have been. The prospect of Children dying is a big deal for a lot of people in modern society; when I still watched TV, there were commercials about it all the time. I still remember the way his voice gurgled as the sound vibrating from his vocal cords struggled to escape his throat. You think everything is so great when you’re young.
Killing Richard was my theme park experience.
Little kids get so excited about theme parks. Sliding the knife’s blade into his back was supposed to be my rollercoaster. That was what I had convinced myself, anyway. I still liked the feeling of power that killing small animals gave me, then. I figured if I killed something my size, I would feel even more powerful.
I spent all week thinking about how, when, and where, I wanted to kill Richard. It had to be Richard, too. He was the only person who would ever talk to me. The other kids at the home…Well, they knew. But Richard lived two neighborhoods away. He only saw the bits of me that I let him. He was my only companion.
I had decided to kill him on the way home from school. It was chance that I had found the knife in a gutter on my block. With the surrounding demographic, though, the chances were high that dangerous things would be left around. I always liked the way blood looked when it came from the mouth of squirrels. The way it flowed out, around their top and bottom chompers, always made me feel quite pleased. Richard was a child desperately in need of braces. His skull wasn’t too deformed, but what adult teeth he had started to come in places that were not flush with the rest. His front teeth stuck
