    Thunder Island

    The wind whipped at the young girl's dress as she approached the cliff, a reed basket held in one hand, opposite arm bent over the top to prevent the flowers inside from blowing away. Far below, waves crashed against jagged rocks. Even from this height she tasted the salty bite of the wind, channeled upward between opposing faces of stone. She reached into the basket and clutched a handful of long stems, framing a wish in her mind as she prepared to cast the flowers into the raging sea.

    Not the white blooms, said a voice.
