About this ebook

God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient but until He said what He wanted, nothing happened. If God had to say something before it happened, it cannot be any different with you - speak the Word!
God did not appear on the world stage with a perfect world. He started with something that was formless and through the power of the Word, He changed everything to what He wanted. In the same way, we are born with setbacks, we inherit problems and the world order may not favour us. Nevertheless, by speaking the creative Word of God we can change what we came to meet and the condition in which we were born.
The storm did not obey Jesus just because He is the Word of God - the Logos. It did not cease because it respected Him. It did not calm down because Jesus wished or wanted it to do so. It became calm because Jesus demanded it. THE WORD SPOKE THE WORD BEFORE THE STORM CEASED.

    I have a strong burden in my spirit to admonish the Body of Christ to ground itself in the Word of God. The times we live in are very challenging, as the forces of darkness constantly attack the Church and human philosophies harden the hearts of many. Believers are in a state of palsy and grievous torment. Homes are in turmoil, churches are weak, nations are heading the wrong way, businesses are failing and humans are in complete despair. The Word of God is our only hope for survival.

    The Roman Centurion whose servant was sick of palsy gave the perfect answer to the conditions of palsy and torment we face. He approached Jesus Christ to heal his servant who was sick of palsy and Jesus offered to come to his house and heal him. The honourable Centurion’s response to Jesus’ offer was as revolutionary as it was captivating. He requested that Jesus speak the Word only and his servant would be healed.

    5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,

    6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

    7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

    8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

    Matthew 8:5-8

    The Roman Centurion’s servant was paralysed and was in great pain. This condition demanded immediate response from Jesus and there was no faster or more potent means to restore sanity than to speak the Word of God.

    The events that are unfolding around us must compel us to speak the Word of God into our circumstances.

    It is not difficult to see the paralysing and tormenting situations in the world and even in the Church. Some of the situations that should compel us to speak the Word are as follows:

    - Man’s hypnotising power.

    The glory and charm of men is hypnotising many believers and God-seeking people. Great deception is sweeping across the globe as men and women occupy centre stage in politics, religion, entertainment, sports and military warfare. These characters charm people with their charisma and intelligence. Some of them employ demons of craftiness and wickedness to capture their victims. It is by speaking the Word of God that we can rebuke these spirits of enslavement and set ourselves free.

    Daniel prophesied about the abomination that makes desolate appearing at the Temple in Jerusalem. This was in reference to a bizarre event on December 16, 167 BC when Antiochus Epiphanes set up an altar to Zeus at the altar of burnt offering outside the temple and offered a pig on it. This abominable act is called the abomination that maketh desolate.

    30 For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.

    31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.

    32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

    33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.

    Daniel 11:30-33

    The overcomers of the "abomination that maketh desolate were those who understood God’s covenant and instructed many. Understanding the Word of God was the answer to the abomination that desecrated the Temple. We have the equivalent of the abomination that makes desolate in our day. Human beings including ministers, politicians and entertainers take God’s place in churches and offer unclean sacrifices in the form of words, songs, promises and fake miracles. They even offer themselves to be worshipped and make claims that are the reserve of God. It is sometimes scary to hear men speak in the pulpit and sound as if they are God. Understanding the Word is the remedy to the abomination that makes desolate."

    - Strange voices.

    There are many voices in the world. Strange doctrines are rampant in the pulpit. Demons are speaking to believers in loud voices and driving them to commit sin and undertake treasonable acts against God. Devilish wisdom and so-called deep spiritual knowledge are releasing confusion, disorder and destruction in our homes. Demons mimic God’s voice and lead many astray. The Word of God is indispensable in our time if we are to overcome them.

    9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

    Hebrews 13:9

    The Bible warns us against strange doctrines that are religiously convincing, but don’t bring any spiritual benefit to those who are bound by them. These strange doctrines look like they are merely excesses of men – they look like simple mistakes based on ignorance – however, they are doctrines of devils.

    1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

    2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

    3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

    4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

    5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

    1 Timothy 4:1-5

    The doctrines of devils don’t always sound obnoxious and weird. Sometimes they are convincing – they appeal to the religious conscience. It is only through the Word of God that we can overcome the deception of the doctrines of devils.

    - Trials and temptations.

    Trials and temptations abound in our time. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the righteous to live peacefully in the world. The wicked persecute the righteous and make it difficult for them to execute God’s mandate on their lives. Laws are made to frustrate the righteous. Devils endanger our lives and fear tries to overwhelm us. By speaking the Word of God we can overrule men’s decrees and establish God’s counsel.

    12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

    13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

    16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

    17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

    18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

    Ephesians 6:12-18

    Hell unleashes its arsenal against the saints without reservation. We are to resist the enemy with the spiritual weapons God gives us. These weapons are listed in the Scripture quoted above – the girdle of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. I notice that all six components of the armour of God are related to the Word of God – they cannot be separated from the Word of God.

    - Insurmountable challenges.

    Every aspect of human life is asking questions that demand miracles and the demonstration of God’s power. Miracles are needed in the face of the myriad of problems that confront humankind. These miracles are embedded in the Word of God. No Word of God is void of power – where the Word of God is, there is power. Healing and deliverance come through God’s Word. The Word of God carries the cure for incurable diseases.

    One day Jesus was at a feast and the wine was exhausted. The shortage was reported to Mary, who in turn consulted Jesus and told the people to do whatever He asked them to do. The result was that the wine was replenished.

    3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

    4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

    5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

    6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three
