The Nature of Trance

About this ebook
This book chronicles the journey to discover the how and why of hypnosis, trance, and how the mind works in reference to them.
It is the result of an independent year long research effort utilizing over 100 hypnosis subjects in both clinical and recreational settings, both in-person and online mediums, and in both verbal and text chat modalities.
From this research I was able to map the entire hypnosis/trance mechanism, into a hypnosis model that operates in a definable and repeatable manner.
It also covers why some people have difficulty being hypnotized, (stereotyped as "analytical types") and how to successfully enable them to experience hypnosis.

Introduction
The following E-book was compiled and written by John Cleesattel DCH.
It contains a complete account of the development of an operational model of the mind, in reference to hypnosis and trance, as well as a model of the hypnosis and trance mechanism itself.
This book is intended to de-mystify hypnosis and trance for the average person, educate and give a broader understanding for the hypnosis student, and provide some answers and explanations for the hypnosis professional.
It is presented in a narrative manner, telling the story of my journey to discovery.
I am a trained and certified Hypnotist that has had my own hypnosis business now for several years.
I received my training at a Hypnosis Institute in Dallas Texas, and I was certified by the International Hypnosis Certification Board.
At the end of all of my training classes, I received a Doctorate in Clinical Hypnotherapy.
Like most that get into hypnosis, my interest started when I was very young. Rather than bore you with the trials and tribulations of my life before hypnosis, the pertinent part that has to do with this story is my previous career as a systems analyst.
I have always had what I considered to be a gift. The ability to see entire processes function dynamically in my mind, and from that, my mind was able to optimize them.
In simple terms, my brain would show me how to get the most value for the buck from a process.
It was not something I had to try and do, my brain just did it for me and I watched.
Everything in life can be viewed as a process of some type or other. Defined as the steps necessary to achieve a goal or complete a task.
I would often mentally tear apart processes to see what was necessary and what was not, while still having the process meet the design outcome.
This would become a prominent factor in the development of the model I use to explain hypnosis and trance.
But, enough of that for now, lets move on to hypnosis itself.
I was trained in Dallas Texas, at a hypnosis institute. My trainer stressed to every class that trance begins with 3 words…. CLOSE YOUR EYES
.
I was taught the progressive relaxation induction, and then went on to advanced hypnosis classes, NLP training, and hypnotherapy classes all from the same guy.
I received my certification and went on to open my own office and start practicing hypnosis.
My trainer always emphasized Do not try and figure out how hypnosis works, they can’t prove in court that it even exists, so don’t worry about it and just use it.
I also took a course in stage hypnosis to see how that differed from the hypnosis taught in a hypnotherapy certification based school.
I learned some different methods and techniques but determined that the main difference was just the focus of each. Stage hypnosis is about being a performer, and hypnotherapy is about being a healer.
The hypnosis induction techniques used, differ in that the stage hypnosis induction was much briefer, and required those that it didn’t work for to return to their seat. This was usually done with a better luck next time
attitude.
After being in business as a hypnotherapist for a year or so, I discovered online hypnosis.
I was fascinated that I could actually hypnotize someone via instant messenger chat.
Voice hypnosis over the phone was one thing, but to actually be able to hypnotize people by them reading my text? Wow!
Then it hit me. Wait a minute!
With text chat, you can’t CLOSE YOUR EYES
.
This means that it is not necessary to close your eyes to achieve trance.
The first and foremost thing I had been taught in my training now had a big hole in it.
While I was thinking that the Close your eyes
statement might have been told to us because we were just beginners, another
