About this ebook

A unique experience in three chapters. A touch of surrealism? A mystery with no crime? It shouldn't be difficult to describe this story. It's either a short novelette, or a long short-story. I mean, it's actually very simple: It's a story played out by its characters. The hero (Jed), meets a young boy with a red wagon, a few other people, and Benjamin Franklin. Really.
A stranger approaches you on a city street, addresses you by name, and gives you
a large, mysterious package.
What is it? What should you do with it? It is nearly too heavy to carry, but you feel you must
take it home, if only to unwrap it, and discover its contents. But it's too large to carry on the bus, and it's fifteen blocks to your apartment. And it's snowing.
Notice: Once you begin this story, you will probably be unable to stop before finishing it. Really.

Born and raised in the rural area outside a small midwestern city, I learned to treasure good books at an early age.I have always had a strong urge to create, occasionally dabbling in the arts and music. My true love, however, is writing, and I am seldom happier than when writing for the enjoyment of others. When people comment that writing a book must be a very difficult task, I must respond thatI don't consider writing to be a task at all. For me, it is a genuine joy. I sincerely attempt to allow this to show through in my writing. My writing goals? I think perhaps, if the reader can close the book at its end with a smile on their face, my writing has been successful. I'm sure many of us can benefit from a bit of extra cheer in our days. If my writing encourages that, I feel I have succeeded.I write to produce sheer, light hearted entertainment. With my very best wishes, Jed OliverP.S Please check my web site. From time to time I include audio excerpts from my books. Enjoy!

    Introductory Disclaimer:

I lay in bed on my back most of last night, staring at the dark ceiling. I had just finished this entire story, and couldn't figure where such a strange tale could have come from. Like, I consider myself a fairly practical guy, and this story isn’t at all practical. Lying there, it didn’t seem possible that I had only imagined it. On the other hand, how else could it have ever been written?

Then I began to think that maybe this tale is kind of like abstract art. I mean, when I look at a work of abstract art, I don't look at it and think yeah, but what does it MEAN?

That's kind of the way this story is. I’m not saying it’s meaningless, I just mean, you’ll have to decide for yourself. I don’t really expect you to believe it.

It was more or less written by its characters. A short fat stranger, a ten year old kid, a few other people, a puppy, and Benjamin Franklin. Maybe Dali inspired a little, too. All I did was put it on paper.

    I hope you enjoy it.

    Chapter One

    The Package

I had left my office building five minutes earlier, and was walking toward a bus stop, for my usual bus ride home. There were several shoppers on the sidewalk carrying their purchases. I weaved between them, brushing the falling snow from my overcoat as I walked.

Hey Mister! Hey Mister! I turned to see who was shouting.
