    A New Neighbor

    Hi, my name's Monkey. You'll be glad to know the snow finally melted around here. Took it long enough. I thought spring would never come. But it did, so I finally got to walk my dog, Weasel.

    His instruction manual says he can learn to heel like a regular dog. I've already taught him to sit, beg, roll over, and shake hands. And that's pretty good for a Robo-Real dog, not to mention a dachshund.

    Vinny said she could hack into his system and reset his program to learn things instantly, but what's the point of that? I mean, he's supposed to act like a real dog, not a robot. Except no peeing on the carpet, barking at night, or chewing up my mom's shoes.

    So I took Weasel for a walk, and that started one of the most difficult adventures of my life.

    Spring sunshine glittered off the sidewalk as Weasel and I set out. I stayed off the soggy grass. The air still smelled like winter, and Weasel wiggled in my arms.

    I snapped the leash on Weasel's collar and set him on the ground. He barked, twisted in a circle, grabbed the leash in his mouth, and ran around my legs, so when I tried to walk, I fell flat on my butt.

    Weasel barked and licked my face.
