Wrong Place, Wrong Time

As she threw on her clothes Mama thought, Got to get his order ready. I’m running late. Unlocking the closet door with the key she always kept around her neck she entered her closet. In reality it was where she stored her inventory of medical marijuana. Glass jars filled of weed lined the shelf. She found the new strain she just obtained the evening before and began to weigh out a quarter pound on her old school triple beam scale. It was Nick’s regular order for years and now it was time for their weekly meeting. ‘He’ll be pleased with this batch of granddaddy purple’ Momma thought. It’s looks frosty, smells wonderful. I still can’t believe I almost risked my life for this half pound of California’s finest. She tossed another bud on the pile and the scale read 112 grams. That equals a quarter pound exactly. Right on the money, Momma said out loud. People always said she could eyeball an ounce from outer space. Carefully, she closed the bag of marijuana as the machine sucked out the air and sealed the bag airtight. After all her years in the medical marijuana business she found it was the best way to contain the pungent aroma of high grade. The package was ready. She tossed it in a grocery bag and took off to her car.

She met Nick in a different location each week. She spotted him. He was hard to miss in his 1966 Pontiac Bonneville. It was beat up but he cherished it. Affectionately he called it ‘Bonnie’. Momma crawled in the passenger seat. She greeted Nick with a smile as she said, Good morning, sorry, I overslept. I hope you haven’t been waiting long?
