Carl pulled up down the street from the house and yanked on the handbrake of his battered old BMW. He couldn't believe his Mother had sent him out on errands today. It was his eighteenth birthday and he had hoped to slum it at home in his room, pigging on junk food and playing his X-Box. No such luck. Cursing and dripping, he stood and brushed himself down and retrieved the box. Carl kicked the door shut and carrying the large wrapped box, trudged and squelched down the street, his hair already plastered to his head with the lashing rain.

Mrs Foxton? Oh, it must be for my sister, can you bring it in for me?

Carl waddled in with the heavy box and followed the voice across the hall and into the lounge. He placed it on the floor and stood, stretching his back and arms, now relieved of the weight. He glanced around the room and thought the minimalist style really suited it. A crackling log fire danced in the sleek modern wood burner. Sorry, is here ok or would you like this somewhere else?

He turned and got his first look at the lady. Far from his expectation of some rotund lady in her fifties that Carl had expected, Miss Mander was a
