About this ebook

Tara is a marathon runner, putting miles between her and and her past. She doesn’t know why she stumbles into the town of Brookfield when she does, or why she’s drawn to a particular bar - she’s not even all that thirsty - but she finds herself floating through the door like a magnet.

No more men, she’d promised herself, but the two that she finds there leave her drooling. Thankfully, her trusty sneakers carry her away.

But fate and nature have other plans, and a terrifying blizzard leaves her stranded with both of them, in their home. Both want her, but she could never be a home-wrecker. She’s left with few options - she doesn’t want to choose between the two, nor does she want to come between them. But her body has other demands...

    Prologue

It was supposed to be just another night at the bar - one like any other. Nate cleaned a dingy mug at the sink, keeping one eye on the baseball game playing on the ancient television bolted to the ceiling across the room, and one eye on his few patrons. They were all regulars - older men, one or two women, and his friend - and partner - Corin. The younger man sat hunched at the bar, tapping away on his phone and sipping a soda. His straight dark hair hung down in his face, giving Nate the urge to brush it aside. His hands were wet, though; Corin would not appreciate the gesture.

Blizzard’s still coming, Corin commented, his eyes glued to his screen.

Were you expecting it to change its mind?

Corin looked up, green eyes full of concern. It sounds bad. There’s road closures south of here already.

Nate dried his hands as he peered down at the phone’s screen. I suppose they’ll be canceling the marathon.

    They’d be crazy not to.

Good riddance. He tousled Corin’s hair before returning to the sink of dirty mugs. This was only the second annual marathon the next town over was throwing for charity, but Nate hated the tradition already. The whole event raced straight down his neighborhood’s main road, just around the corner from his bar, closing down streets and leaving behind a mess.

That, though, wasn’t the problem. It did bring him a load of extra business. No, the problem was the flock of slowly running humans right under his nose. He’d had to lock down more than one of his werewolf’s pack members, while his own wolf howled inside, desperate to give chase.

This year, the pack had been ordered to stay out town entirely while the event was on. It was easier said than done, though - especially when it came to the younger and more impetuous members. But thanks to the blizzard, it appeared it wouldn’t be an issue anyway.

    They’ll just reschedule, Nate.

He shook his head. We’ll deal with it when it happens.

That was when trouble entered. Nate straightened up in attention before she even walked in - he could smell her approach. Oh, no. Now?

She walked into the pub with a cold gust of wind at her back. Dressed in a light jacket and sweatpants, she was obviously one of the many runners in town for the marathon. She wore a baseball cap low enough to obscure her face, and didn't remove it as she took hesitant steps towards the bar.

Water? she asked, her voice quiet, raspy. She smelled of the woods, and mud, and sweat. Nate took a moment to answer - her scent was intoxicating. The rest of the bar seemed to dissolve away as he stared at her, smelled her, rapt.

He knew what it meant, though his mind raced with denials.

Water only comes with purchase of a drink, he heard himself say. It wasn't true at all - he just wanted her to sit, stay for a few drinks. His wolf wanted her to stay. It practically clawed inside his chest, begging for release to claim what was his.

    His.

"Oh. Can't I just pay for the
