IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH
AND WHEN DEATH DO US PART... AGAIN.

Young witch Catherine Fields and new wizard Anthony Reynolds were hand-fasted almost right away after their initial meeting and remembering of their true nature as one of the very rare True Soul Mates of the Magickals.

But their happiness—and honeymoon—are cut short when the High Council barges in on their bliss to tell them about the dire needs of the Magickals and humans for a savior. Or more specifically, for the Magickal King and Queen of old times to save them from an unknown and ominous danger whom seers have seen in their divination for a time now. Feeling the same foreboding because of his own gift of foresight, Anthony believes. So he will undergo an intensive training to use his powers as a wizard in the fight to come.

But the darkness is among them, and evil plans are being hatched at that very moment to counter the eventual leadership of the True Soul Mates. They are going to be rocked on their very foundation, because it is the eternal lovers that are going to be under attacked by a traitor within their midst...

EXCERPT
“Something you said reminds me of a thought that’s been bugging me these last few days. You’ve often talked about Magickals having a special aptitude for a specific type of magic, but you’ve never told me what yours is. You obviously know about my foresight, and everyone we’ve met seems to have some unique aspect to their gift, but I don’t know what yours is.”

Catherine shrugged her shoulders. “That’s because I don’t have one.”

“Is that... normal?” he asked. “I don’t mean to be insensitive, but I was starting to assume that everyone had something special.”

“No, it’s not normal at all. When I was quite young they tried a few strange tests that were supposed to illuminate my talent, but nothing ever revealed itself. As far as Magickals go, I’m a bit of a dud.”

Anthony stood up so he could take her hand and pull her close. “You’re not a dud.”

“I mean, I have a basic knowledge of the gift, but I’ve never really been capable of anything much beyond minor magic. I think that’s partly why I decided to live with my dad when my parents split up. It felt a little better to be the talented among the ordinary instead of being a lame duck around a bunch of hawks.”

“Well, I don’t care how your gift presents itself or not. I love you, and I don’t see you as a lame duck.”

She smiled and laughed a little. “You better not think that. We’ve apparently got the rest of eternity to keep finding each other, and I’d hate for you to start getting bored of me.”

Eden Laroux

Eden Laroux was born on November 27, 1978, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to a father who was a butcher and a mother who was a florist. Her mother, originally from Saint-Emilion in France, migrated to the US to become a textile worker.Eden Laroux was born as Emilia Domini. She had an elder brother, Calvin, and has a sister named Philomena. Her father, a second-generation Italian immigrant, left Emilia’s mother for a laundrywoman, who was also of Italian descent. He was a gambler and an alcoholic. It was learned later that he not only stole money from his employer, but also left the family with gambling debts to settle.Eden was 14 at the time, and the experience of being abandoned and deceived seared into her memory – a theme which showed up in most of her early literary works – sad poems and essays--and in her college years, short stories for various creative writing classes.Eden's brother Calvin chose to leave his own studies and worked odd jobs to supplement their mother’s income, which was obscenely meager, after their father left.Despite financial difficulties, Calvin pushed Eden to work for a degree, and through his and other people’s help, she was able to get a scholarship to attend college and study English Literature.Three weeks after Eden's graduation, Calvin - a closeted homosexual - was killed in a freak accident at work (stabbed by his partner in the middle of a long drive for an out-of-town furniture delivery). He had “come out” only to Eden. He and Eden had been very close, owing to their father’s leaving and their mother becoming undone and distraught.Philomena, Eden's younger sister, is the family’s joy and the family’s artist. While her formal training is in business (she is currently studying for a degree in finance and strategic management), she nevertheless finds time to also dabble in the visual arts – as a potter, painter, and, of late, as a furniture designer.Emilia chose to write under her mother’s name, Eden, as a tribute both to her mother's unconditional love and for her strength to overcome an enormous challenge of raising a family – all on her own.

    PART TWO

    Chapter One

ANTHONY AND CATHERINE shared a look. They had just learned that an agent of great evil was intent on destroying the world as they knew it, and that they were the prophesied True Soul Mates who would defeat this dark force if it didn't kill them first. All in all, it wasn't turning out to be quite the honeymoon that either of them had expected.

Is there anything in this prophecy that explains exactly how we go and stop this... this... whatever it is? Catherine asked.

The business of prophecy is all rather vague and its true nature is difficult to divine, said a witch named Adeline, who seemed on the young side to have been appointed to a position as powerful as Council member. What is known is that there is a dark warlock working to upend the current balance of light and dark, and that there will be two whose love has lasted thousands of years who stand the only chance of preventing this from happening.

    And that's us, Anthony said.

Adeline looked at them as though she were inspecting something unpleasant on the bottom of her shoe. Our best information seems to indicate that you are the only ones who could reasonably be said to fit that description, yes.

How do we know that this dark agent has arrived? Catherine asked.

The one who saw the vision of your return and your ultimate role in the events to come was found bound and partially flayed, Augusta answered. The wounds were most likely induced during torture designed to extract information about the prophecy.

There have been other similar cases over the last few years, continued Mr. Bjornson. At first we thought them random acts of violence, but certain patterns have emerged that would indicate that they are linked. Not all bodies were discovered similarly abused, but incidents involving those favoring the dark side of our gift have been on the rise.

Anthony stood and paced across the room. He ran a hand through his hair and stopped to stare at the assembly of witches and warlocks that made up the Council of Magickals. Haven't you been able to enforce any sort of order; managed to round up any suspects?

I'm sure Catherine can attest to the fact that I wasn't around much as a mother, Selena said, rising from her seat at the side of the room. "I know I've never been clear on exactly what I do for the Council, but suffice it to say that I am something of an incognito investigator. I've been following these situations
