Introduction
This book is for those who have recently made a decision to follow Jesus and those who surrendered to Jesus years ago, but feel they need to make more progress in their Christian walk. I pray that it will help you in many ways. Your decision was a very special event, and it can be the beginning of a radical transformation. It is like walking through a door into another world. You have passed from Death into Life. Jesus has removed all the barriers so you can walk into God’s Presence and be close to Him. God loves you dearly, and you were made to love Him.
Jesus said that making the decision to follow Him was like being born again
. When a baby is born, they are not mature. They are expected to grow and learn how to function in the world, and so it is with rebirth. You will have to learn how to walk
again. There are things in your life that will end and many things that will begin.
As you read this book, and as you journey through the Christian life, you will be tempted many times to give up. You have enemies (evil spirits) who hate you and will do anything they can to keep you from following Christ. Please do not neglect the issues in this book or anything the Lord communicates to you. It is important that you make time to deal with your inner life.
This may be hard to believe, but the spiritual world is far more important than the natural world around us, because it will last forever. As Christians, we should focus on God’s Kingdom.
God’s Kingdom is invisible to our physical senses. It is a place where God is respected and treated as King. It is a community of people who desire to truly love God and each other. We become part of His Kingdom when we decide to follow Jesus, and it is our mission as believers to advance His Kingdom on earth by doing what He wants. The Lord has promised to show us what to do to accomplish the most good. There are many deceiving voices in the world, but we can trust God to communicate with us if we really want to hear Him.
For thousands of years, God has thought about you and envisioned wonderful things for your life. He desires for you to know Him well, but He doesn’t force the relationship. He wants you to love Him freely; so He lets you choose. You can travel into His Kingdom and discover many wonderful things or you can stay near the door. I pray that you will make the decision to pursue God and His truth with all your heart. He is the most awesome Person that you will ever know, and His Kingdom is the most wonderful place that has ever existed.
In the Beginning
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
I believe God made the decision to create our universe, because He wanted someone to love. God is love. It is His essence. Love needs someone to love, so God created humankind.
Every person has a physical body, a soul (mind, will and emotions) and a spirit. Your soul includes your personality, your attributes and your talents. Your spirit is the part of you that can experience and interact with the spiritual realm - including God Himself. Your spirit is not fully alive until you accept Jesus’ sacrifice for your sins and ask Him to come into your life. Jesus died on the Cross to pay for all of the wrong things that we have done or will ever do. His death broke off many curses and the consequences of sin. When you believe that He is the Son of God, that His death paid for your sins, and you are willing to embrace His lordship, your dormant spirit comes to life. It is sometimes hard to feel or discern our spirits, because we are distracted by the things in this world and our own thoughts, but the spiritual world is very real. The soul and spirit are everlasting. Those parts of you will not die. The essence of who you are continues living after the death of your body, and your existence in the afterlife is determined by your decisions in this one. God desires for you to live with Him after you die. He also wants you to reach your full potential on earth. Without Him, you will not have the guidance, encouragement and truth to achieve your highest destiny.
God has thought about you for a long time, and He has imagined great things for your life. He has always been near you. He has been grieved when you were hurt, and He has longed for you to know Him. He knows everything about you, and He understands you in a way that no one ever will.
The Lord thinks about every person this way, and He desires to gather His children into a community of people who experience His life. He wants a family that works with Him to bring love to the Universe - in this life and the next. God looks at the big picture. We get caught up in this earthly life; but it is very, very short compared to eternity. When our life on earth ends, our journey with the Lord continues. We will be given new responsibilities and privileges. Heaven is not a place of dullness and boredom. It is a beautiful, colorful place with vibrant activity. An atmosphere of joy, light and peace permeates Heaven, because it is filled with God’s Presence.
Many people suppose that they can ask Jesus into their heart, and then live as they choose. They are not longing to be with Him, but they expect to go to Heaven when they die. That mindset may not result in a life with Him in Heaven. God requires a commitment to know Him in order to live with Him. We should not expect God to let us live with Him for eternity when we have shown no real interest in Him. We don’t like total strangers barging into our house, so why should God allow that in Heaven?
If someone decides to believe in Jesus, but they won’t let Him change their life,
