About this ebook

Molly Miggins is a junior witch who is allowed to join the Witch’s Academy at nine, a year earlier than usual. Molly is given an ancient but slightly damaged wand, called Wonky which turns out to be one of the most famous wands in history. The Magic Council believe that Molly has the ability to become one of the great witches and give her a series of difficult tasks that she must complete to get extra powers.

When junior witch Molly Miggins writes out the list of presents she is going to buy for Christmas she doesn’t realise how much trouble it is all going to be, especially as one of the presents is for the long dead security parrot that haunts the corridor outside of her father’s study.
Having made the parrot some sticky millet, Molly realises that she will have to find a way into the spooky half-world where the parrot resides if he is to eat the gift.

Molly finds a spell which allows her to enter the half-world, but before she can deliver the present she meets Carole, the Christmas witch. Carole tells Molly she will meet three spirits during the night – the spirit of a Christmas long past, a spirit from the future and the spirit of Christmas present.

Before the night is over Molly will solve an ancient riddle, get a scary, sneaky peek into her own future, and help the security parrot negotiate a creepy contract.

All of your favourite characters are here, including; Granny Whitewand, the wacky witch with the wobbly teeth, Molly’s arch rival, Henrietta Havelots, the richest girl in the school and the crazy security parrot who guards Mr Miggins’ study.

    Chapter One

‘Molly Miggins if you aren’t downstairs in five minutes flat you’ll find yourself on cleaning duty.’

Molly turned onto her back and studied the ceiling.

    ‘Molly Miggins…’

    ‘I’m already up,’ yelled Molly.

Mrs McCraggity’s head appeared round the bedroom door.

‘Don’t tell fibs, young lady. Now hurry up, we’re going Christmas shopping today and I’ve got a lot to do before we set off.’

Molly leapt out of bed. How could she have forgotten? She rushed through to the bathroom and showered in record time. Four minutes and fifty-three seconds later she presented herself at the breakfast table, hair dripping wet, with a sheet of paper in her hand containing her Christmas present list.

Molly studied the list while she ate her Wheaty Flakes.

    Urgent Present List

Mum: Something for her hair… No! She always wears her witch’s hat so no one will see it. Maybe a witch’s diary with all next year’s full moons in, or maybe a new winter scarf, or something else.

Dad: A new pair of white gloves for his magic act because his old ones have holes in. Maybe a new, yellow sparkly band for the top hat he does the rabbit tricks with because the one he has now is just boring grey.

Mrs McCraggity: A new mug to replace the one I broke when I practiced warming her tea up with my new microwave spell.

Granny Whitewand: Some green, gunky face cream or some glue stuff for her teeth to stop them wobbling.

Jenny: A Skeleton Bones, boy band CD.

Mr Gladstone: (my cat). A tweety bird on a stick toy, or some catmint.

Aunt Matilda: A Skeleton Bones, boy band CD (same as Jenny).

Aunt Matilda’s pet rat, Wilberforce: A small box of cornflakes.

Sally Slowspell at school: A copy of the photo I took of Henrietta Havelots when that slime spell exploded in her face. Put it in a frame.

    Henrietta Havelots: NOTHING!

Security Parrot: Some millet. I might cover it in syrup if he’s good. BUT I might try to make a spell that sticks him inside a cuckoo clock if he isn’t.

Wonky: (My wand.) Some nice polish for his silver bits.

After breakfast Molly tucked the list into her pocket and caught the bus to town with Mrs McCraggity.

At the market Molly tapped her foot impatiently while she waited for Mrs McCraggity to buy fresh mushrooms, potatoes, cranberries and lemons. Eventually they made it to the shopping centre. Molly headed straight for the Magic shop where she managed to find a witch’s diary, some white magician’s gloves and a small bottle of wand polish. She picked up the millet and the tweety bird from the pet shop and was delighted to find a BOGOF, (buy one get one free) deal at the music shop. She found a nice photo frame in the pound shop and purchased a small box of cornflakes for Aunt Matilda’s pet rat, Wilberforce, and a mug with ‘World’s Best Cook’ written on it for Mrs McCraggity. Molly didn’t think Mrs McCraggity was the world’s best cook, her custard was always lumpy and the dumplings she made were like rubber, but she never complained. Mrs McCraggity might make her cook her own meals if she did.

Mrs McCraggity was surprised when Molly announced that she had to go into the chemist. At the counter she joined a queue and waited impatiently while people bought tubes of cream and bottles of pills. When it
