The clean, sanitized smell of the doctor’s office hit Anna as soon as she walked through the door. It was her first visit to a new practice and even though she was only there for an initial discussion, she was all too aware of the onset of nerves. She never much liked visiting the doctor as a child and had retained that through to adulthood. Her mother had drilled the need for a regular pelvic exam into her though and she knew it made sense to do it. She stepped up to the receptionist’s desk to introduce herself and was taken through to see the practice manager after only a five minute wait.

So, how can I help? he asked once Anna was seated.
