Editor’s note
I first met Dr. Kiriti Sengupta only recently, when we both worked on the Indies In Action (IIA) charitable anthology Twist of Fate (ToF). Kiriti was a contributor, and I was an editor. At one point he asked if I would be willing to do an interview with him about the book. He was doing a series of interviews with people who had worked on the book to be used for publicity purposes when the book was released. I was frankly a little surprised by this. Authors get interviewed about their books all the time. Editors? Never. I jumped at the chance! It turned out to be fun to do, and I got to know Kiriti a little better.
After the interview Kiriti asked if I might be interested in editing his upcoming book which was to be called The Unheard I. He explained the book was to be his first work for an English-speaking audience. I had read some of Kiriti's poetry, and recognized him as a talented poet. But I'll be very honest. I wasn't really sure about editing his book. It would be a challenge to do, and I wasn't so sure I could do it justice.
The first potential problem was that I would be working with a translation of the book. In that capacity I'd be working with the translator's words, not the words of the author. And there are some words, and more importantly some ideas, which just don't translate very well.
