Hi, I’m Donna Cowden author and illustrator!I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where the food is perfectly spicy and the weather is beautifully warm (although quite HOT in the summer months). In bloom, the crepe myrtles are awesomely beautiful and the live oaks full of Spanish moss are exquisite. I’m not sure what exactly to say about the alligators except they live here too! Everyone has something – it’s bears further north.I’m less than one hour from New Orleans (NOLA as it is known here), which is a fantastic, fun city to visit. Not just because of Mardi Gras, either, in fact I’ve never been to Mardi Gras — that’s just not for me! I do enjoy Jackson Square, The House of Blues, watching live street performers, the French Outdoor Market, getting around the city via old time streetcars, the antique shops, cruises on the Steamboat Natchez, and of course enjoying the culinary treats — jambalaya, gumbo, beignets, crawfish...yum...and so much more! If you ever visit with children, here is a link to a great site to help you plan your getaway...New Orleans Kids.I grew up in the rural countryside in the north and have fond memories of ice skating, sledding, swimming (I was on the swim team), riding horses (I had a pony named “Mom”), riding bikes to the general store for penny candy and other treats, ransacking the mulberry tree when it was in bloom, games of Hide-N-Seek at dusk, and so much more!I recently began writing and illustrating children’s books — a career change for me. I LOVE the work. I wish I had chosen this path years ago.
