PART ONE

The plane was landing. Benny was the third friend in Chuck’s platoon asked to meet a girlfriend at the airport and tell her it was over. The first two friends who owed Chuck favors, had done their jobs for their friend on their return home, both at different times and different airports, but they were married and entreated their wives to help them let the girls down easy. Chuck was a pig when it came to his girlfriends, all the guys knew that. They also knew or highly suspected he was gay and firmly planted in his own secret closet. He was handsome as a Greek god with a great body and the women flocked to him like flies on fly paper, from New Orleans to Afghanistan. Before the men in his platoon knew him they assumed he was one of those lucky men one often meets, but never lucky enough to be, a ‘total babe magnet’. He had girlfriends in every camp and wrote to them constantly; promising sexual favors with his Don Juan language, and even promises of marriage and babies. He wasn’t selfish with his letters either. He’d read juicy bits of pleasures this girl was going to give him or that girl couldn’t wait to offer. However, he was never heard jerking off under the covers after one of these epistles arrived; a total surprise to the lonely horny men in the hot barracks. After the first soldier being sent home was asked by Chuck to deliver a letter, the other guys began to put two and two together and came up with three, as in three dollar bill. But he was a good guy and a good soldier and anyone of them would trust their life with him and had. Now it was Benny’s turn to deliver the ‘Dear John’ message to the lovely unsuspecting girl. She would be waiting with the other wives and girlfriends for her handsome would be love to get off the plane, kiss the ground of home and take her in his arms. Benny wasn’t quite as handsome as Chuck but certainly had a body to match; all the soldiers had their bodies in perfect condition and kept them pumped and ready for action. He was already thinking about finding a gym to join once he was back home.

Chuck’s ‘girl’ was named Kate and she’d be wearing a red sun dress. When asked if she was pretty, Chuck told him she could wear anything coming off of any fashion runway in the world and make it sell; Benny being a straight man took that to mean, ‘yes’, she was pretty and ‘yes’ Chuck was gay. She was bringing her car to meet Chuck and take him to her place, so Benny hoped he could at least get a ride to the bus station. He had no one to come home to, but he had friends he’d love to see and surprise on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
