Paid to Play

It was an awesome day and would be perfect for the beach. Driving south in my red convertible to a more secluded section of coastline, I had the top down and the radio turned up cranking out dance tunes. I adjusted my sunglasses and ran my fingers through my short blond hair, which was constantly getting whipped about by the wind. The sun was already quite high in the sky, and was warm without being too hot. A few random wisps of white cloud broke up the monotony of the blue, but there was no chance of the sun being blotted out anytime soon.

I slowed down and pulled into a grassed area beside the beach and parked under the shade of a large tree. Several other cars were parked there as well, which I had expected. While it was a secluded stretch of coast, it wasn’t totally devoid of people. With my towel slung over my shoulder, I headed barefoot through some dunes and down onto the sand.

The water looked amazing. It was clear, blue-green and sparkled in the sunlight. Small waves regularly rolled into shore and the sound of the surf was soothing. Glancing about as I walked down to
