About this ebook
Lucy Goodwin knows more about horse breeding than a proper young lady should. Her brother’s thoroughbred business has given her purpose and independence, but when an accident leaves her solely in charge, despair and destruction threaten her every move. Trapped in an impossible position, Lucy must do the right thing and watch their dreams crumble, or save their livelihood at a cost too great to bear.
Lord Philip Lyton, Marquess of Chalifour is a member of the prestigious Jockey Club, dedicated to eliminating cheating in horse racing. Trouble raises its ugly head when his business partner falls foul of an accident and he’s suddenly forced to deal with the man’s sister, who seems alarmingly out of her depth. Chalifour respects Lucy’s steely resolve, but knows that single-mindedness can be the most dangerous trait of all.
She might be beautiful and beguiling, but Lucy Goodwin is keeping secrets and Chalifour is determined to find out what they are.
Mariel Grey
From the moment she could put pen to paper, Mariel Grey knew she wanted to be a writer. Like all good adventures however, it didn’t happen overnight; it was after several decades of working in litigation that the desire to create dramatic worlds and characters became too great to ignore. Her first foray into historical romance, Surrender of Trust, explored the grime and glamour of regency horse racing, following the determined but impoverished Lucy Goodwin and upright Lord Chalifour. Her second novel, A Gentleman’s Surrender, released January 2016, introduced the innocent Lady Monique and tortured Mr. Stanton, both struggling to find love in a world filled with deceit.Though entirely at home in the ballrooms and street alleys of London past, Mariel Grey is currently working on a contemporary story set in Florida, a landscape dear to the author’s heart. When she isn’t conjuring words on her computer screen, Grey can be found on the water fishing, snorkeling, and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of her home.Mariel has a wonderful husband (the hero of her own romantic story) as well as a mischievous cat (who seems happy to play the role of villain). In addition to being a dutiful wife and animal wrangler, Mariel is a member of the American Romance Writers Association, and the Ancient City Romance Authors chapter.Visit Mariel at her website at http://marielgrey.com

Reviews for Surrender of Trust

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book has such a promising premise.
Not necessarily historically reasonable, but, heck, it's a Regency, right? Some allowances are built in. I was totally willing to go with the idea of the sister stepping in to run her brother's thoroughbred race horse breeding business when he's badly injured in a carriage crash, and needing to hide that fact.
But we are supposed to believe in the high moral and ethical standards of Lord Chalifour, and his determination to clean up racing. He's a good guy, really!
And from the first moment he meets Lucy Goodwin, sister of his proposed business partner Lucien Goodwin, he wants to seduce her. She's a friend of Lady Monique, the sister of a Duke, received by the ton, and he has no hesitation about introducing her to his own sister, Elizabeth. She ought to be within the protected circle even for Regency England, at least in a Regency novel.
Yet her enjoyment of riding, and other normal, ordinary signs of not being dead, is described as being "a temptress." He thinks her ability to go from the "temptress" mode of enjoying a good ride to "respectable" mode of talking with his sister is strange.
Maybe it's the times. Maybe I'm being affected by the news. I hesitated to write this at all.
But I'm not willing to accept a powerful man who decides to seduce a woman he perceives as not being of a status that requires his decent respect as being a romantic hero of high moral standards. The "happy ending" just irritates me.
Maybe I'm being unfair. That's the breaks. I can't recommend this book.
I received a free electronic galley of this book, and am reviewing it voluntarily. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed reading "Surrender of Trust" by Mariel Grey. One can tell that the author has thoroughly researchedthe Regency period, and is well acquainted withthoroughbred breeding. The two main characters of this novel are Lucy and Chailfour. Both are very strong characters, who addsubstance to the plot.I highly recommend this novel to anyone interested inreading about the Regency period, and thoroughbredracing during that time period.I received this work from the Member Giveaway by the author inreturn for an honest review. Five stars!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I stayed up til 4 AM reading this book! All in one day. At first, I didn't expect much from a "mini" story of about 200 pages. I thought, that like others, it would be too short, "not enough meat" as I call it and rushing, ended too quickly and left reader unsatisfied. Not this! Mariel Grey did a great job in making this into a nice historical romance, and a promising series.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was just an ok read for me. It might appeal to someone else though. I just felt like the story jumped around a little and writer seemed side tracked in areas. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review via LibraryThing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Surrender Of TrustBy Mariel GreyIf you buy only one book a year then, I highly recommend getting this one. The author has knocked the ball right out of the park on her first try at bat.The story is very well researched. I was impressed with her accuracy of the Arabian bloodlines, which I personally know myself, and put together in a very satisfying, neatly wrapped package.I do not agree with the one star reviews that are posted. If you do not care for this type of book then why do you buy them? I found it to be a lovely story and the circumstances involving the heroine’s actions quite believable. And who hasn’t met a man in their lifetime that would plot out a way to seduce a woman that he wanted? As far as the “identical twin” business, I am fairly certain that in the early 1800’s they would not have made a distinction of their sexual variances making a difference as far as them being identical. And since it was the characters view of them…I don’t see the problem. The book has been re-edited recently to fix any missing words, etc. and I promise, you will not be disappointed. If I could rate it higher than five stars…I would!I am looking forward to reading more from this budding new author in the future. Do not miss this one!
