About this ebook

A Book Series of Fun, Friendship, and Adventure!

Welcome to a world where improbable things are possible, the wind plays an active role (you know how the wind can get), and you might just learn a thing or two.

This book series was written at a middle school level. These kid-safe adventure fantasies host unusual friends, odd circumstances, and a great deal of humor.

The lead character is none other than Reginald P. Lizard, an intelligent lizard of few words. His best friend is the regal, proper, elegant "Lady Horse" with a positive demeanor. Ellington Owl is a lovable, cuddly, yet uncoordinated owl, who flies just fine, but doesn't land so well. Finally, Bootsy Bat and Thelonious Melon (Yes, a melon!) are an inseparable pair who crack jokes and play games on each other.

These five charming friends get into light, non-threatening, and fun adventures, and they meet the most interesting creatures. You will be entertained by songs, jokes, games, puzzles, manners, and interesting facts, too! The world of Reginald P. Lizard (and his friends) is waiting for you. Yes, yes, yes, YES!

As one reviewer writes of the fourth book:

"This book defies categories and nearly eludes description—clever, witty, and tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time gentle, sincere, and reassuring. Like so many of the best stories, different layers will appeal to multiple ages; you will find yourself giggling and pondering in equal measure. Also, there is an awful lot of coffee, an enviable coat of infinite cookies, a bathysphere, and poetry. What's not to love?"

Join our five friends on their second adventure!

    Preface to Updated Edition

This book is the second book in the world of Reginald P. Lizard. You can download the first book, Ellington Owl's Awesome Birthday, for free!

The main characters are back: Reginald P. Lizard, Lady Horse, Ellington Owl, Bootsy Bat, and Thelonious Melon.

I published this first book in early 2013. A month or so later, I completed this, the second book.

Some five years later, I finished the third book. A lot can change in five years, and I realized that my third book was better than my first two—at least from my point of view. I felt it was necessary to spruce the other two up a little.

Each book is a self-contained story, you can read them out of order without missing too much character development. Maybe just a little here and there.

I removed the images from this book because drawing is not my forte. Perhaps one day I will find an artist who can capture the essence of the characters in drawing as did E. H. Shepard for the Pooh characters.

I hope you enjoy the story,

Since I dislike long prefaces in books, I will keep this short.

    The Story

    Trash Detail

IN AN ORDINARY melon patch stands a white mailbox with the name T. Melon stenciled upon it. A furry brown bat stood upon this while mailbox looking down upon the dozing melon. Hey! Wake up, you sleepy melon, or we will be late! Thelonious Melon snored on.

It was mid-morning on a crisp spring day—the type of day that can’t decide to be warm or cold. Small yellow flowers dotted the green melon vines, and the leaves were fresh and vibrant. Bootsy Bat called out again, "You don't want to be late, do you?" Thelonious Melon murmured, then turned away from the intruding bat.

So Bootsy Bat dropped from the mailbox right on top of Thelonious Melon’s head and looked straight down at him. He shook the melon from side to side, Muffin crunch! What will Lady Horse think if you are late? She organized this cleanup event because of the trash strewn near her stable, and you said you would help, and you don’t want to disappoint her! Thelonious Melon's eyes opened as he remembered his promise.

Moments later, the two friends hurried toward Ellington Owl's tree house.

    * * *

Reginald P. Lizard walked next to Lady Horse on their way to Ellington Owl's tree house. The lizard couldn't help but notice three buzzing and insistent flies. The horse tried to shoo them away with her tail, but they kept coming back. Although the lizard had eaten a full breakfast of waffles with syrup, toast with marmalade, and coffee, he craved one of those three pesky flies—the peskier the better! He never understood why Lady Horse always had an entourage of flies. She must be the luckiest horse in the world because—free flies! Lady Horse, of course, ignored, or at least tried to ignore, the small pests.

Reginald P. Lizard’s eyes glazed over—he could not ignore even one fly, let alone three! They mesmerized him. For such a smart and sensitive lizard, he often had fly-on-the-brain.

Unfortunately, Reginald P. Lizard felt that eating a fly in front of Lady Horse might be uncouth and improper. He often found himself in a quandary because he enjoyed the company of Lady Horse so much, and he loved eating flies so much.

Thelonious Melon and Bootsy Bat caught up to Reginald P. Lizard and Lady Horse just as Lady Horse said, . . . and that is why a watched pot never boils. Yes. The arrival of the bat and
