He remembered her body, but not the face. A young 60, he was physically fit, active, built on a slight frame.
The doctor said he needed an immediate operation but opening day of hunting season was coming and a party was planned. He wanted one more deer hunt, one more night with friends. Damn the doctors, damn the hospitals, he was going to wait a week.
It was dawn. A new sun rising, birds were starting to chirp, forest creatures were anxious for the fall sun to warm the ground. A chilly frost covered the meadow. The grass, damp with dew, had frozen and brittle stems crunched under his feet. He was late. He had planned on getting into the blind before sunrise but the comfort of warm sheets and the naked body, made getting out bed hard among other things.
The festivities the night before weighed heavy on his mind. He remembered he was with friends, having a few beers, chips, playing a few games of pool and meeting the girl. With mind still foggy he tried to remember what she looked like but all he could picture was the naked body and the rise and fall of those breasts. He didn’t know her name, he wasn’t sure of her facial features but he did know she was blond, a natural blond.
The crunching grass brought him back. He thought he saw a movement across the meadow. The ground fog obscured his view. Probably a deer, he thought. No, it wasn’t a deer, nor an elk or bear; it was walking on two legs, perhaps another hunter. Maybe someone else had the same
