To the reader: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, killed off Sherlock Holmes in, "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes". Then a few years later he brought Holmes back in, "The return of Sherlock Holmes". I have always thought that a better explanation for Sherlock Holmes was needed as to what really happened during those missing years. It is my hope that this story does just that, and fits with Doyle's character with added humanity.

A Most Huggable Bear
My name is Arthur, but I did not know that in the beginning. I’m not sure even where I came from, I guess maybe teddy bear heaven. This, however, is my story of becoming a part of my family.
It all started one December many years ago, when a young couple was talking, and the husband asked his wife What would you most like for Christmas?
Her response came without a moment’s hesitation. I would love to have a most huggable bear.
Her husband realized that he had taken on a rather large job. He could have easily purchased a gift like diamond earrings, or a blender for the kitchen, but now he was going to have to be on a mission to find that perfect bear.
The next day he shrugged on his coat, and pulled down his wool cap, then ventured out into the early winter morning. He went from store to store looking for that special bear. Some were small, others large, some had on cute outfits or spoke when you squeezed their paw, but none of them were right.
However, after searching high and low, he still had not achieved his goal. Then it dawned on him. ’A most huggable bear,' he had gone about this all wrong. So he continued his search using a new plan. He went to the place that he thought might have his best chance of finding just what he was looking for.
