About this ebook

After the Sixth Day tells the story of one spirit living in a world that it's trying to understand. At some point on the journey, a longing is awakened for another world that feels both familiar and unknown--a spiritual place. This story is uniquely told through poetry and prose with sincere and powerful emotion. The "notes" in After the Sixth Day reveal what we all soon realize; through interaction with the world, the spirit is tested, awakened and strengthened by the love, joy, pain, and hurt we all experience. ~~~~

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. {Genesis 1:27,31 NKJV}

    After the Sixth Day - Trinka Polite

    Acknowledgments

    First I give thanks, praise and honor to my Heavenly Father for giving my spirit a voice when my flesh was unable to find the words.

    To my Mom, Lillie Polite and my siblings--Pam, Jerome, Wesley & Jeremy -- know that your love revived me. Joe and Trinae, you’re such a blessing to me.  To my father, Ralph Henry, our relationship is additional proof that God always has a plan.  I love each of you with all my heart!

    I want to thank the rest of my family and friends for your inspiration over the years.  I so love you!  I greatly appreciate all who have encouraged my gift and supported my dream.  To my cousin, Patrick Duncan, special thanks for taking the time to give me honest feedback.

    To the Taylor family-Emmanuel, Annetta, Danielle, Chetara, EJ & Cameron, you have been the wind beneath my wings.  You make my heart smile.

    Last but definitely not least, much love and appreciation to all my nieces and nephews who bring immense joy and purpose to my life. You keep me young, beautiful ones.

    Introduction

    Confession: I have never put pen to paper with the intention of writing a poem or any prose for that matter.  Yes. You read that correctly. Let me share how it happens.

    In interacting with the world, our souls, spirits, minds and bodies are all affected.  Yet, I’ve found that it’s at those times when the effect is so consuming that the response gets trapped in our throats.  The words slide back down into the chest.  They wrestle within our hearts in an attempt to capture the totality of what is being felt.

    For each person, the duration of this emotional process varies from minutes to hours, from days to weeks to years.  The results may be positive or negative.  Thankfully, I am blessed that my process leads to writing.  Therefore, I submit to you the ramblings of my heart. Well those that have at least made it to paper.  After the Sixth Day is a collection of poetry and prose that chronicles the experience of one spirit's journey through this world so far.  The book begins with one of my earliest writings and proceeds in chronological order to the most recent at time of publishing.

    You see, I believe all human stories have an underlying similarity.  Some shared here happened to me personally.  Others describe an interpretation as a witness to someone else’s life.  We all may know love, friendship, pain, jealousy, betrayal, joy, and even awakening.  We may have experienced them in different ways and to varying degrees, or even called them by different names.  They are still the same.  I address each in the following pages, because they all serve as excellent teachers on our spiritual journeys.

    At a young age, part of me recognized that an explanation of our existence went far beyond the religious.  I could feel it but had no word for it.  I had not been introduced to the spiritual.  As time went by, life taught me many lessons that shaped my spiritual development.  And, I’m still learning.  My hope is that you hear your inner/spiritual voice speaking as you spend time with each piece.  I pray that you never dismiss any of your life experiences. Find a way to embrace the lessons they teach and start writing your own notes.  Maybe in the following pages is a message that resonates with part of your life’s journey.

    One more thing -- keep in mind that this is an intimate journey.  It’s one that seems a hundred times longer than my years on Earth.  Now that I think about it maybe it is.  After all, the sixth day was quite a while ago….

    With Heartfelt Gratitude,

    Trinka Polite
