A long distance phone call distracts the author and she inadvertently shares some personal information with a couple of newly found friends. "Don’t rush, think before opening your mouth," her father had advised time after time. But, it's too late now. Her secret is out and she has to face the consequences. But as always her mother is by her side to help her tell the story of their precious secret.
Mojdeh Marashi
Mojdeh Marashi is a writer, translator, artist and designer. Mojdeh's work is deeply influenced by the ancient and modern history of Iran. Her writing merges the world of magical realism in Persian literature that she grew up reading, the reality of the world she lives in today, and the utopia she dreams about. Mojdeh was born in Tehran, Iran and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1977, and now lives and work in Palo Alto, California. She is the Managing Partner at Blurred Whisper, an Idea and Design studio in Palo Alto, California, which she co-founded in 2002. Mojdeh studied at California College of Arts (CCA) and later at San Francisco State University where she earned her M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts and an M.A. in Creative Writing.

Our guests – let's call them Peter and Susan - are discussing one of the artworks in our living room. It is a safe topic considering we have been friends only for a short time and this is only their first visit to our house. My husband has just started to tell them about the painting’s origin when the phone rings.
Excuse me.
I pickup the phone and walk towards the kitchen as to not interrupt the discussion.
My conversation is taking a bit longer than expected, so as it is ending, I walk back into the living room, cover the mouthpiece with my hand and say in a low voice:
