Maxi Shelton

My name is Maxi Shelton; I live in Surrey, England, surrounded by green countryside and hills, with my wonderful husband, two children and dog. My dog is my writing buddy who sits at my feet, although she has been known to tell me off if I get up to make a cup of tea too often! She also encourages long walks to develop ideas and story lines. I’m a full-time author and housewife, with an FdA in Interior Design. Writing novels has been a secret dream of mine for as far back as I can remember. I’ve always loved reading and writing, along with history, culture and life! I’m one of those people who love to watch the world go by and imagine what people’s stories are!

    Chapter 1

Daisy looked down at her outfit. She looked ridiculous, but it was the only fancy dress costume she could get at such short notice. She had only found out about the Halloween party yesterday when Sally, her so-called best friend and flatmate, had called her at work, saying that Daisy quite simply had to go to the party with her as there was this guy going that she had been interested in for ages now and, well… tonight was the night Sally was going to hit it off with him.

Why Daisy had to get involved was quite beyond her; she had so much university work to catch up on, let alone the day job work!

Hey, you look great…! beamed Sally, as she walked unannounced into Daisy’s room, as usual. They rented a house together, but Sally had no concept of privacy.

Daisy looked at her reflection. I’m a fairy, and a very pink fairy at that!

Sally came up behind her and smiled into the mirror; she was dressed as a very sexy witch.

Sally said, laughing, But a very seductive fairy! and then turned and headed out of the room, calling over her shoulder, The taxi will be here in about five minutes, I’ll meet you downstairs.

    Daisy just sighed and nodded.

She took one last look at herself in the mirror.

    Ewww, very pink and…very short.

As Daisy leant over to pick up her phone and money, shoving them in her bra, she caught her reflection in the mirror.

Ooh no… note to self: do not bend down in this dress…!

The party was already buzzing when they arrived. Sally quickly excused herself to hunt for the guy; Daisy couldn’t even remember his name, Sally had always just referred to him as ‘The Hottie!’

Daisy did an inward groan, she was more of the reserved, quiet type; meaning a bookworm, as her friends liked to call her.

Daisy looked around her; she didn’t recognise any of the faces about her.

She slowly weaved her way to the kitchen, or the direction she thought the kitchen would be.

The music was pumping but she didn’t recognise the song, which was hardly surprising; she was never very good at keeping up with chart songs.

Lovvve the wings! said some guy right near her ear, as he brushed himself passed her; making sure she was very aware of how much he liked her outfit, by the huge bulge in his trousers.

Daisy grimaced. Note to self: avoid guys dressed like Superman tonight!

Hey Daisy… called a guy from her university lectures, who looked even more ridiculous than she did, dressed as a… well, she wasn’t sure what.

Hi Jim, what did you come as?

Jim beamed at her, put down his pint, and then put on round glasses.

    Of course… Harry Potter!

Daisy said, Ah…I get it now, and not wishing to make any more comments. Jim was a big chap, but not in height, in fact he was only about five foot.
