    First Act: The Force

So keep it together. We need everyone to be on the ball this time around. The mayor is going to be at the party and he has been VERY clear that there are to be no disturbances.

God, she is sexy. The woman in charge of the mayor's charity party is an absolute stunner. Her name is Sarah and I been lusting after her for so long that I'm sure that that state is almost part of my personality.

To give you the low-down on my situation, we have been on and off friends for quite some time now. Every time we work together we really hit it off, but work just seems to pull us apart more often than bring us together. The result is a rather difficult situation where neither of us is quite sure where we stand and that’s not to mention that, being police officers, we are in a tricky position if the attraction is not mutual – something that I am really unsure of.

The officers in the room leave at the end of the meeting to continue their work and Sarah approaches me.

We need two plain clothes officers in on this to run internal crowd control. I’ve assigned you and me to those roles.

I grin and she grins back. Sarah knows that going ‘undercover’ will be the most fun job for a rather boring assignment and that we will basically be mingling with the rich and famous.

That sounds good. I have a suit that I recently brought and haven't managed to find an opportunity to wear. This would be the perfect chance.

That’s lucky. I’ve never seen you outside of your work clothes. I bet you look really good in a suit.

I ruffle the collar of my policeman's uniform and smile at the enthusiasm in her eyes.

I assure you that I look top notch out of my blues.

    I bet you do.

Just as we are about to take our flirting a little further, the police chief cruises over and drags Sarah off to a meeting room for even more discussion about the ever-so-important event the mayor has decided to have in the city.

I sigh and walk back into the squad room to find Joe waiting for me. My partner is one of those lazy looking cops that seems to always be slouching and slacking off. It's all a facade though. Joe is the smartest cop on the force by a country mile and he is probably well aware that I was talking to Sarah just a moment ago.

We leave through the back doors and walk through the parked cars in the police station’s parking lot. I stay quiet, knowing that he’s going to mention it any second now.

So did you ask her out?

    What do you think?

You wooed her with your amazing personality and she said she would marry you.

Marriage? I’d settle for a first date.

    I thought you had that?

I give him a look and wonder if he's kidding.

Alright then, when did we have this first date of ours that I wasn’t aware of?

He gives me a slightly lopsided smile and rubs his knuckle underneath his
