    Where’s Jo?

Jo stood in the centre of the roundabout, in the centre of Paddington. She stood in the centre of her life, looking for something to reach out to. She was looking for the right way to go. Cars and bikes whizzed around her. She went to step forward. A car beeped at her. She took off in the opposite direction and a man on a bike yelled, Look out! She wasn’t sure what to do. The third and fourth ways seemed clogged in both directions. The fifth way looked like it was free of traffic, not an obstacle in sight. She held her breath – then stepped forward.

Joanne’s parents, Hazel and Ralph, spend most of their time traveling and buying things off eBay. Kevin, Jo’s younger brother, he’s the eternal student.

There are a number of other people in this story, but we’ll just start with them.

It’s Sunday morning, 22 April 2012. It’s the morning of Gregory’s birthday. He spent the night at Jo’s apartment. Jo’s giving him his birthday present.

    ‘OOOOOUGH.’

    ‘Gregory! I do have neighbours.’

    ‘Oh honey, don’t stop now.’

The neighbours are used to the noise, but not always from Jo’s apartment. The neighbours make enough racket themselves. In fact, every Sunday morning at 11.00 am, a woman
