About this ebook

Are you really motivated to lose weight?

This is a record of my personal success in losing weight. I hope that the reader will find it useful, informative, and motivating.
This book is about what I did to lose that weight, which I managed in much less than the allotted time. There was no magic in what I did. The procedures I carried out were surprisingly straightforward and, for me, not too difficult. Here is the account of what I did and how I did it. I sincerely hope that you will find my story fitting to your own case in some way, and help you to lose weight as well.

For most people, there is no reason why this no-nonsense approach to weight loss will not work for you too.

    BACKGROUND

This is a record of my personal success in losing weight. I hope that the reader will find it useful, informative, and motivating.

I am male, 60 years of age, 5 foot 3 inches tall (on a good day), and a vegetarian. I already had (along with many of my age) various medical conditions: High blood pressure (hypertension), low thyroid levels (hypothyroidism – actually, the wonderfully-named Hashimoto’s disease), high cholesterol, and baldness.

Also, I was, I knew, at least overweight. I had weighed myself a few weeks before this story really began, and found myself to be 12 stone 8 pounds. That’s 176 pounds, or 80+ kilograms. I had a stomach ‘pot’ – as my doctor was pleased to point out – and respectable man boobs. But, before feeling ill, I didn’t take my weight all that seriously. For heaven’s sake, I looked nothing like those people they parade on the telly. They were HUGE. I wasn’t huge, so where was the problem?

In fact, according to the famous Body Mass Index (BMI), for someone of my height, that weight actually put me into the obese category – not miles over the line, but easily so. I had tried in the past to lose some bulk, and had had some success, but not very great, and the weight soon came back. As I got older – and having been taken redundancy from my lecturing job – the fat seemed to keep building up. When you see yourself every day, you don’t notice the slow creeping enormousness.

Finally, as if my catalogue of medical conditions wasn’t long enough, after feeling particularly tired and generally unwell, I was given yet another set of blood tests, and was told I had to repeat the test for diabetes. The doctor I saw soon afterwards said that, definitely, I had type 2 diabetes. Amongst other things (like taking medication), he said he wanted me to take charge of the disease and lose 15 kilograms in weight.

He gave me a year and a half to lose that weight. He used the term morbidity when referring to the medication and, I think, the weight loss. In effect he was saying, in his medical way: Lose 33 pounds or die!

After some research into the disease, and being talked to by various specialists, I realise that he was actually saying: Lose 15 kilos or go blind, have your toes chopped off, lose your kidneys, and then die!
