I am an author, a teller of stories both long and short, real & imagined. So for the sake of my own amusement, here’s a bit of information about me, written in the form of a short story. Whatever information you can gleam from these words is what you are worthy of knowing about it's creator.Hazel eyes stared up at a cloudless sky before falling to take in the house below it. To some, it would be judged by its flaws ; it's fading paint and scuffed floors. But to her it was perfect. It was hers. And it was home. To one side, a wild forest whispered sweet nothings in the breeze, which was answered by some distant bird's call. "Life is good." She said softly to no one. "And today is a good day."The sudden squawking of wild fowl pulled her attention to the shaggy black and white dog that rarely strayed far from her side."God damn it, Jackalope! Quit chasing those turkeys!""I looked heavenward for angels, while beautiful demons showed me the way." - Shannon Nacyl

There was something in the sky. It wasn’t there anymore, but it had been. Mike could swear it. After all, something had caught his eye and made him look up. He paused in his step, craning his neck back to increase his view as best he could.

The deep silken blue above his head was flawless. Not a single wisp of a cloud, not the faintest smudge of a jet trail, not even the flickering dot of a far away bird dared to break the perfection of the azure atmosphere. Behind him, his head strategically angled to keep it out of his vision, a white sun burned patiently, the only exception to the unbroken blue.

As Mike continued to stare, the mysterious interruption faded from his mind, replaced by the first lines of prose. ‘Of crystalline beauty, smooth and clear,’ he thought to himself, beginning to compose the first lines. ‘How I longed to…. To….. Damn, to what?!’

Reaching into the satchel that he had flung over his shoulder earlier in the day, he habitually pulled out a notebook with a pen clipped to it’s binding, then began looking around him for a shady place to write down the lines as they occurred to him, so he could work on the poem.

As he looked around the grass-covered clearing, noticing with distaste that not even the scrawniest of trees was within five feet of him, it suddenly occurred to him that he was completely alone. Something in his distracted mind told him that this was incorrect, he was not supposed to be alone at this time.

The poem forgotten, Mike put his notebook back into his satchel and tried to figure out what was wrong and why. An echo of jovial voices tickled his ear, making him reflexively turn his head in their direction.

It came back to him in a flash of memory that was almost painful. The hike! Mike had not come out to the small park alone, he was with a group of his friends. They had decided to start off their first vacation from college (four whole weeks baby!) with a picnic together at Jenquia National Park and nature preserve. Being outdoors in the sun and
