I'm an avid reader and love to write. I am married with two boys and reside in Minnesota. Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King,Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Peter Straub, Suzanne Collins, J.K. Rowling, Thomas Harris, Dan Brown, Cormac McCarthy, My new favorite- Bentley Little, and many many more. I'm willing to read any author who has a great idea and is able to express his ideas in a way I can relate(at least with the characters) and understand clearly. I revise constanly and still don't end up satified, but i guess that is something that will come in time, hopefully. I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them. I am currently working on a novel, but I will try to upload new short stories from time to time, mostly free to read. I believe if I'm going to charge anything it should be at least 4,000 words or more. A lot of the stories I post are old and had been written years ago, but I think they still have good potential (After endless revising and I know they're still not perfect). P.S. you can find my newest stories under M.D. Stephens. I will no longer be posting stories under this pen name. I am taking a different approach and trying to appeal to a broader audience. I thank all of you who have read these stories, and I urge you to check out my other profile where there is some exciting stuff to come. My attempt from now on is to write stories without all the sexual situations and extreme graphic violence. I believe if I'm a good enough writer, I should be able to entertain without being so gritty and explicit. I'm not going to completely abandon the darker side, but for now, I'm going to tone it down. the link for my new profile is below. Thanks for your time. Matt

It was a quiet day at the fire station. The Chief sat at his desk munching on a doughnut and flipping through the local paper. The rest of the crew was shining up the fire engines and mopping floors when they weren't goofing off and checking out the latest nudie magazines. It was a mid-summer day, so they left the garage doors up, which let a nice breeze blow through the station. Everyone noticed when Johnny Smoke came striding in.

    Hey Johnny.

    What's up big guy?

Nice job last night. You really kicked some ass.

Johnny smiled and shot his pointer finger at them as he passed through and made his way to the chief's desk. He knocked lightly and the chief waved him in through the window. He motioned for him to sit as he wiped doughnut crumbs from his mouth.

    How's my main man today?

Johnny moved his seat forward and cleared his throat. I'm doing good.

I'll tell ya, you did a great job last night. That was one of the biggest we had in a long time. You will definitely receive another reward after saving that girl from the top floor.

I was just doing my job. Johnny said.

Yeah and you almost died. Christ! I thought you were dead when the building collapsed. So tell me, how the hell did you manage to walk out of that?

I was on the third floor when the complex began to collapse. I held the girl with one arm as she clung to my neck. I was used my other arm to wave our way through the heavy smoke. That's when the floor gave out. The next thing I knew we were falling and bouncing off things so quickly that I thought I was going to lose the girl. When we finally landed, I landed right on top of her. I feared that I might have crushed her, but it turned out for the best, because before I could get up, a support beam toppled on top of me, pinning us to the ground. There was a moment when I thought we were going to die. It's amazing what adrenaline can do for ya when you’re under pressure. Can I grab a glass of water?

The chief smiled and waited for Johnny to sit back down. He was intrigued with his every word. Please continue.

"Well, the beam landed in such a way that I was able to move the girl a little to my right and turn over. The wood was smoldering and charcoal black. I yanked my axe from my holster and began chopping away at it. It probably took only ten minutes, but it seemed like eternity. I pulled the girl against me and made one last chop before it snapped in half. When I stood up there were flames surrounding us. I would have had no clue where I was if it wasn't for the small exit sign hung above a door that I could see periodically through the flames. I opened my coat, buttoned it around the girl, and told her to hold on tight to my neck. I slid my shield over my face and ran into the flames…and that's about it. The next thing I know, I
